More than 20,000 attended the 93rd Days of 76 PRCA Rodeo and events that took place in the historic city of Deadwood, South Dakota, from July 21 through 25. Celebrating the tradition of the Old West, activities included parades, live entertainment and the unveiling of a statue in remembrance of bronc rider Howard Hunter. For the city’s 93rd year, the community welcomed cowboy and cowgirl athletes from across the country to commemorate the legendary event that includes a PRCA rodeo. The five-day celebration featured fun and activities for all. The Ak-Chin Indian Community, the Earnhardt Auto Road Team, and the Cowboy Lifestyle Network served as sponsors and offered media coverage of the traditional festivities.
On Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th, all ventured to the Deadwood Main Street to watch the Days of 76 PRCA Rodeo processions that featured the Queen of the Rodeo and her court. This year, the honor went to Kendra Peterson, who was voted Miss Rodeo South Dakota 2015.

PRCA Rodeo Final Results

Dozens of cowboy and cowgirl contestants competed for five days in a series of traditional Pro Rodeo events in hopes of going home with a piece of the $200,000 prize money. By July 25, the final results were in:

• Bareback Riding-Evan Jayne from Marseille, France won $3,392
• Steer Wrestling-Stockton Graves from Alva, Oklahoma walked away with $2,733
• Saddle Bronc Riding-Wade Sundell from Coleman, Oklahoma was awarded $4,153
• Tie Down Roping-Caleb Smidt from Bellville, Texas was $2,190 richer
• Barrel Racing-Michelle Lummus from Hiram Georgia won first place and $3,432
• Bull Riding-Bobby Welsh from Gillette Wyoming received $3,649
• Team Roping -Clay Smith from Broken Bow, Oklahoma and Paul Eaves from Lonedell, Missouri worked together to win $2,205 each

History of Days of 76 PRCA Rodeos

The Days of ’76 celebration and PRCA Rodeo began in 1924 as a means of commemorating the miners, muleskinners, madams, pioneers and prospectors who settled in Deadwood, South Dakota, in 1876. A museum has also been constructed that features everything from historic clothing and carriages to horse-drawn wagons, stages coaches, and other memorabilia. The community gained recognition for its efforts in keeping Western sports and tradition alive by receiving the Badlands Circuit Rodeo of the Year Award for 13 consecutive years. Since the early days of the celebration, the PRCA Pro Rodeo prize money awarded to cowboy and cowgirl participants has increased by 600 percent. The popularity and success of the annual events helped the Days of 76 committee land a spot in the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame.
