Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino Code Green Events promote environmental awareness

Written by

Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino employees and guests enjoyed Code Green initiatives, designed to help promote environmental preservation and awareness.
Code Green events kicked off with Earth Hour on March 24, where Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino turned off non-essential exterior lighting for one hour. Code Green events concluded on April 30.
During Code Green Month, Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino employees participated in Adopt a Highway cleanup, gardening, recycling and shredding events. A clothing drive gathered items for Pinal County Against Abuse. Recycling receptacles around the property encourage employees and guests to recycle – not just during Code Green Month, but all year long. Additional Code Green efforts included a drive that urged employees and guests to recycle plastic bags.
Collection and donation of surplus carpet benefitted the Valley Humane Society in Casa Grande. Employees also collected and brought in paint, light bulbs, and electronics for recycling. These items can’t be thrown away with regular waste, so this provided a safe place for proper disposal.
Tasty treats were also available during Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino Code Green festivities. Dunkin Donuts on site offered green donuts, and The Lounge served up a specialty green cocktail for the monthly drink special. New this year, a salsa festival encouraged contestants to create and sample green salsa recipes.
For the souvenir-hunters, Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino gift shop carried unique Code Green-themed merchandise including tree-free greeting cards, solar-powered garden lamps, and other recycled items.
Also promoted during Code Green, Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino recycles gently used soap all year long. Clean the World in turn sends recycled soap bars to parts of the world where hygiene products are scarce.
Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino also participated in building hygiene kits for veterans in need. These kits were assembled during the 5K Poker Run Pool Party and were completed by 5K runners, guests and employees, using supplies sourced from Clean the World. Each hotel room at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino includes additional information about the different environmental initiatives that guests can help with simply by staying there.
Harrah’s Ak-Chin employees and their families used their painting skills with the Habitat for Humanity organization on April 28 to close out Code Green Month efforts. Employees who volunteer and give back to the community where they live and work is a cornerstone of Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino.
Code Green is an enterprise-wide initiative to promote environmental awareness and stewardship at all Caesars Entertainment Corporation properties. While some efforts like recycling take place all year long, Code Green events take a fun approach to involving employees and guests in the month-long celebration.
