Joe Frost, Lucky Number 2

Joe Frost with an unbelieveable 85.5 point ride during the 4th Round of the 2015 Wrangler NFR

“Frost Fever” as some like to call it, is in the air in the midst of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo approaching, and it is a familiar feeling to rodeo and bull riding fans. We can thank the 1994 release of the legendary movie 8 Seconds for helping popularize rodeo and western culture across the country, and Joe Frost, second cousin to Lane Frost, is carrying on his family’s legacy by being one of the top bull riders in the world today. Joe, who was two years old at the time of the movie’s release, was 22 year’s old the first time he qualified for NFR last year. He won two rounds and ended the rodeo as the number two bull rider in the world, and he will be making his second appearance at the Thomas and Mack Arena in less than two weeks.

This year Joe will entered the NFR in the number six position that matches the six bulls he covered at NFR 2014. While he only was in the money on five out of the six bulls, it is comparable to Lane’s first NFR where he rode five bulls in 1984. If the luck of the number pattern continues, Joe would one up Lane’s eight bulls rode at his second appearance 30 years ago by riding nine of ten bulls this year, which would be an incredible accomplishment.

Speaking of achievements, Joe is also credited for winning the Ram National Circuit Finals Rodeo this year in Kissimmee, FL as well as the Kitsap Stampede and the Cattlemen’s Days. With $324,039.00 in earnings since he joined the PRCA in 2013, he has proved himself to be a top hand in the sport. Along with other qualifiers such as Wesley Silcox, Caleb Bennett, CoBurn Bradshaw, and the Wrights, Joe will be representing the great state of Utah at this year’s finals and will proudly be carrying his state flag during the grand entry.
If you’re sick with Frost Fever but are not able to make it out to Vegas this year, you can express your support for Joe by gearing up here!
