PRCA Rowell Ranch Pro Rodeo 2016

Written by

When it comes to one of the best rodeos California cowboys and cowgirls can attend, there are none more exciting and competitive than the PRCA Rowell Ranch Pro Rodeo. This year’s event, scheduled for May 20-22 in Hayward, CA, will feature many of today’s top rodeo stars, in addition to numerous up-and-coming rodeo pros eager to take their place among the elite of the sport. As is always the case with the PRCA Rowell Ranch Pro Rodeo, media coverage will be led by the Cowboy Lifestyle Network. In addition, the Ak-Chin Indian Community as well as the Earnhardt Auto Centers Road Team will also be providing extensive media coverage of the rodeo.

Rodeo King of the West
Along with letting the community of Hayward experience the thrills and spills of rodeo competition, this rodeo holds a special place in the sport’s history. Started by Don Guillermo Castro in the 1800s when he presented rodeos in what is now the Hayward Library Park, it was the “Rodeo King of the West” himself Harry Rowell who revived it in 1921. Four years later, Harry produced his first rodeo at the Dublin Canyon Ranch, which is now the current site of the Rowell Ranch Rodeo Park. More success soon followed for Rowell, who became the biggest rodeo stock contractor in the West by supplying cows and additional animals for numerous events.

The Rodeo for Charity
In addition to its rich history, what makes the PRCA Rowell Ranch Pro Rodeo so special is the many charitable causes it helps to support. Partnering with many local non-profit organizations, the rodeo raises funds each year to help those in the Hayward community who are less fortunate. Continuing the tradition started by Harry Rowell more than 90 years ago, it’s one of the main reasons why this event is so popular.
The Lone Rider
While the competition during this rodeo is always full of suspense, perhaps nothing compares to the start of the rodeo and the appearance of the lone rider galloping into the arena from Harry’s Hill. Carrying an American flag, this patriotic symbol signifies the rodeo has begun, and is truly a special moment for all in attendance.
Don’t Miss the Action
As the PRCA Rowell Ranch Pro Rodeo is set to kick off another successful year, make sure you get to the Rowell Ranch Rodeo Park to be part of the action. No matter how big a rodeo fan you might be, there’s no doubt you’ll want to experience each and every minute of the action and make the “Rodeo King of the West” a happy man as he watches from Heaven.
