The sport of rodeo was created to keep people on the edge of their seat, but RFDTV’s

The American was created to keep fans on their feet. AT&T Stadium is home to the Dallas Cowboys football team, but on February 19 it was home to the cowboys and cowgirls competing in the sport of rodeo. The American is the wealthiest rodeo in Texas, and it also proved to be one of the most exhilarating. The American rodeo offered cowboys and cowgirls the chance to bring home $2 million in prize money.

Bringing home the cash is exactly what bullrider Sage Kimzey, saddle bronc rider Cody DeMoss and barrel racer Hailey Kinsel had on their minds. With Kinsel and DeMoss coming in as qualifiers, and Kimzey as an exemption, this made them eligible for the chance to win $1 million. When the three of them each won their event they split the check three ways. Kimzey, DeMoss and Kinsel all earned a check for $333,333, plus the $100,000 for their event win.

Kimzey cinched The American’s 2017 bull riding title after his final score of 89.5 points. It took DeMoss an 88.25 point ride to secure his spot as The American 2017 saddle bronc rider champion. The American’s 2017 barrel racing champion, Kinsel, ran a time of 14.689 in the final round of the rodeo.

The other champions at The American were not eligible for the $1 million side pot because they had been invited by RFDTV. Each of these competitors were competing for the $100,000 win. In the bareback riding, Tim O’Connell won with a 90.25 point ride in the final round to lock in his title. In the team roping, the Minor brothers, Riley and Brady, had a time of 3.61 seconds to earn them the title. Steer wrestler, Clayton Hass, was a 3.73 seconds and cinched himself The American’s 2017 steer wrestling championships. Marty Yates won the calf roping with a 6.65 seconds.

I am a 23-year-old from the small town of Hitchita, Oklahoma. I was raised in the well known Duvall steer wrestling family, so I am no stranger when it comes to the sport of rodeo and western lifestyle. I have two brothers, and the three of us have all competed in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. I am an Oklahoma State alumni where I majored in Agricultural Communications and Agribusiness. I am now a third grade teacher. When I am not writing stories or in a classroom, I enjoy camping with my family, feeding cows, traveling, going to rodeos, meeting new people, and eating dutch oven dinner.
