One Year Ago: Remembering Granite Mountain Hotshots

Written by

This year marks the one-year anniversary of the Yarnell Hill Fire, where 19 hotshots from the Granite Mountain Hotshots died in the line of duty in northern Arizona.

The Yarnell Hill Fire was sixth deadliest American firefighter disaster and the deadliest wildfire to ever happen in Arizona.
It just so happened that that weekend was when the Prescott Frontier Days Rodeo was happening.

Deeply affected by the loss of so many young men, the entire rodeo community and fans pulled together to help out the families and survivors of the fallen hotshots.

On July 1, 2013, Pickup man Miles Dewitt leads a riderless horse honoring the fallen firefighters from the Granite Mountain Hotshots just before the grand entry of the opening performance of the Prescott Frontier Days Rodeo Monday night

Throughout the rodeo, there were several events that were held in honor of the fallen as well as to raise money for the cause.

This year’s Prescott Rodeo is sure to be an emotional one with a memorial being held during one or more of the performances.

Rodeo fans from across Arizona and the United States are encouraged to come out to enjoy one the world’s oldest rodeo that has been put on every year since July 4, 1888.

In an effort to assist Coors and the Wildland Firefighter Foundation in their cause, the Cowboy Lifestyle Network will be promoting Coors Banquet’s Protect Our West campaign on all of its social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google+.

CLN will be spreading the word about the campaign at all of the concerts, rodeos and events that the CLN, Ak-Chin and Earnhardt Auto Road Team visits this summer.

The Cowboy Lifestyle Network champions many causes that involve those in the rodeo world and those outside of it.
Having the Yarnell Fire happen so close to home and losing so many young, bright, and brave men deeply affected everyone at the CLN, which is why this campaign is deeply heartfelt.

CLN invites anyone who sees them at an event to ask about the campaign and how they can help.
