2014 Ralph Johnson Indian Rodeo

Written by

Cowboys from around Arizona and the surrounding area made their way to Ganado, Arizona for the 47th Annual Ralph Johnson Memorial Rodeo.
Did you know that Ganado has the oldest operating trading post and National Historic Site named the Hubbell Trading Post on the Navajo Reservation?
The Cowboy Lifestyle Network, Ak-Chin Indian Community and Earnhardt Auto Road Team was there at the Ralph Johnson Memorial Rodeo grounds to capture all the thrills, spills and action.
In addition, CLN was joined by World Champion and Hall of Fame Bull Rider, Charlie Sampson.
The rodeo is put on every year in memory and in honor of Ralph Johnson, who was of the Tsinjikini Clan and born for the Kinyanni Clan.
While Mr. Johnson had many talents, many remember him for his love and career in rodeo the most.
Mr. Johnson served in the United States Marines as a Navajo Code Talker in Japan during World War II.

Some of the best Native American rough stock riders and timed eventers came to show Ganado what rodeo was all about.
Ted Spencer, one of the contestants at the rodeo, competed in both the bareback riding and bull riding and was commended by Charlie Sampson for riding aggressively and with a lot of heart.
Of course, there was lots of Coors Banquet flowing while the citizens of Ganado enjoyed all of the rodeo action.
CLN will be closely following the Indian Rodeo circuit as the Indian National Finals Rodeo approaches on November 4-8, 2014 in Las Vegas.
