2016 Wrangler National Patriot – American 300 Africa Memorial Day Tour Day 1

Brittney’s Blog From Africa – Day 1

We were up with the sunrise this morning, after a quick breakfast, it was off for a tour of this US Air Force Expeditionary Base. Wish I could tell you all exactly what they do here, but some things are better-kept secret.
All you need to know is that there are Troops here doing amazing work in duty to our country and our allies.
After lunch, we landed on the US Embassy to visit with our Department of State Staff and Families along with our Marine Security Detachment Marines. Parents were invited to meet us in the courtyard of the Embassy, and Lucas and Thomas gave an incredible show under a mango tree. The best part of the day was the excitement from the children. They were laughing, singing, and dancing the whole show and then gave us a run for our money on the roping dummies. Miss Emma (5) and Avery (4) were our biggest fans! They helped Lucas come up with new lyrics (and spoke up if he said them wrong), danced with Annie and myself, and I bet they roped the dummies 100 times before it was time for them to head off with their parents late in the afternoon.
After the show, we got invited to visit the Marines House where our US Marine Corps Marines who provide internal security to the Embassy live, workout and base their operations from. It was great to get to know them, hear their stories, and be able to individually thank them for their service here in Africa.

“THERE’S ENOUGH GRIP AND RIP ONE HIT GOING ON… AMERICAN300 TOURS ARE ABOUT CREATING LIFE TIME CONNECTIONS BACKED BY A MISSION OF BEING THE BEST WE CAN ALL BE IN DUTY TO OUR COUNTRY, FAMILIES AND FRIENDS.” – ROBI POWERS

Driving through town was an experience on its own. Makes you appreciate how lucky we truly are in the United States. Things I never thought I would see in my lifetime… I saw today! From a woman carrying a baby in addition to a stack of supplies at least 8′ tall, to two goats being held between 2 men on a motor scooter – crazy stuff. Seeing older gentlemen riding a small donkey that was pulling a huge cart, all the while with the man’s legs dragging in the sand… put perspective on this nation’s peoples battle to survive in the harsh climes of the sub-Sahara.
Somehow our security team thought it’d be cool to connect cowboys and cowgirls with hippos on the way back to the base this evening, but no joy on the hippos along the river. What we did experience was a huge step back in time with miles of primitive adobe huts and everything imaginable on clear display as our convoy snaked its way along the narrow road.
We ended our night with a patrol around the compound in total darkness. As midnight approached, Lucas had a great idea: what better way to top off the day than with a private concert in the kitchen for the night shift food preparation team. I’ll cherish Lucas singing one of his hottest new songs “Boom Boom” and Thomas backing him up with fantastic guitar accompaniment. It’s coming up on 0200hrs over ‘here’ – thanks for following along and remember to ‘Click On and Hang On’ with the Cowboy Lifestyle Network as the 7th Annual Wrangler National Patriot Tour rides on!
Until ‘Tomorrow.’
