New country, new base, new faces, same great American Servicemen and women.. We had the opportunity this morning to visit with our lifesavers at the base hospital. The medical facility is fully staffed with a dentist, general and emergency department docs, PAs, and surgeons to care for our troops out here in the remote African areas. We were challenged by Danika Portz to complete the 22 push up challenge for veteran suicide awareness with a direct shout out from her trip over here a week ago. So in the ER, alongside some of the hospital staff, we completed our 22 push-ups and gladly challenge any other group that comes through this camp.
My favorite part of the day was a completely unplanned visit with the fire department on the way to wifi at the Green Bean. Started off as a convo sitting on the front of the fire truck and before you knew it, Smets and I had traded our cowboy hats for helmets and Robi was announcing a roping competiton; New York (Joe) vs Texas (Eric). The ‘Station 1 Djibouti Round Up’ championship title was awarded to New York, but I have a feeling it’s going to be a double header with a short go. Second go tomorrow, 0800 hrs.
The WNPT gang also went to the Force Protection Guard Mount ( shift change) tonight to pre-intruduce ourselves for tomorrow’s all-nighter that will be spent with those who typically miss the visitors because they are in the guard shacks all night and performing roaming patrols of the perimeter fence and outside the wire patrols. That being said, it is 0100hrs, and time to get our last “night” of sleep!
Click on and hang on, cause the Wrangler National Patriot Tour ain’t over yet!
