Sierra is the most popular choice of drivers, according to GMC. The latest Sierra Heavy Duty models combine form and function, resulting in improved towing and style. Every model starts with a 6.6-liter V-8 that generates 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque, according to a Car and Driver review. It pairs to a six-speed automatic transmission and rear- or all-wheel drive. The optional Duramax diesel 6.6-liter V8 offers 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of twist, and it matches to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

GMC’s 2020 frames offer bigger max towing and payload numbers, says a Motor Trend review. Across every configuration, developers used thicker, lighter and more advanced materials in the frame, according to Motor Trend. This combination results in higher maximum payload, in excess of 7,000 pounds and higher maximum towing capacity. Every model can now tow more than 30,000 pounds.
