Toyota’s 4Runner is one of the original SUVs, and one of the few with true off-road capability, according to a review in Digital Trends. For buyers who want an SUV that can keep going when the pavement ends, the review says it’s hard to beat the 4Runner.

All 4Runner models come with a 270-horsepower, 4.0 liter V-6 and five-speed automatic transmission, says Cars.com. TRD models offer standard four-wheel drive, while other models have a choice of rear- or four-wheel drive. Maximum towing capacity is set at 5,000 pounds.

Other features make off-roading easier in the 4Runner. Hill-start assist is now standard on all models, and downhill assist is standard on Limited and SR5 models, according to the Cars.com review.
