While domestic automakers largely monopolize the full-size pickup truck market, the 2022 Toyota Tundra will appeal to a different audience, notes Car and Driver in a review. Coil springs will make the 2022 Tundra ride and drive “much better than most,” Car and Driver says. The Tundra will also tow up to 12,000 pounds and comes standard with a suite of driver-assist features. The twin-turbo V-6 engine is available with a hybrid system offering 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque, while the standard version features 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. With a cabin that’s “considerably prettier” than its predecessor and an infotainment system with a 14-inch touchscreen, the 2022 Tundra “has the goods” to take on the Americans, according to Car and Driver.

Toyota continues to offer its popular trim packages. TRD Off-Road includes off-road suspension, skid plates and unique wheels, while the TRD Sport package offers lowered suspension and 20-inch wheels. TRD Pro features lifted suspension and exclusive dampers, along with a unique set of black 18-inch wheels mounted on all-terrain tires.

Inside, Tundra’s creature comforts are sure to please. The interior materials are “much nicer” than what was used in the previous generation, Car and Driver says. All models have a versatile center console with plenty of storage space. The standard instrument panel includes a pair of analog gauges and a small driver-information display, and the top trim levels offer a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. An 8.0-inch touchscreen is standard, which can be upgraded to a horizontally oriented 14.0-inch touchscreen that “trumps” what’s offered in all other trucks, notes Car and Driver. Safety features include automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

The 2022 Tundra will come in two body styles with three different cargo-bed lengths. The extended cab or Double Cab offers either a 6.5- or 8.1-foot bed. The crew cab or CrewMax is offered with a 5.5- or 6.5-foot bed.
