2026 Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show & Rodeo

Country Lifestyles

The 2026 Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show & Rodeo is gearing up for another unforgettable year in Mercedes, Texas, bringing together the best of South Texas tradition, agriculture, and entertainment. As one of the region’s most cherished annual events, the show continues to highlight the Valley’s deep agricultural roots while offering a full slate of family‑friendly fun.

This year’s event will once again fill the fairgrounds with impressive livestock competitions and youth exhibitors representing 4‑H and FFA programs from across the region. From cattle and swine to goats, lambs, and poultry, the livestock show remains a cornerstone of the event, providing hands‑on learning, scholarship opportunities, and a chance for young agricultural leaders to shine.

Past, Present, & Furture

Born from humble beginnings in 1939, the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and Agricultural Exposition was built through the hard work and dedication of the Mercedes Chamber of Commerce and community members who proudly honor Texas’ agricultural and ranching heritage. Since its inception, the event has exceeded expectations. With a permanent event center that now draws hundreds of thousands of rodeo fans each year, millions of dollars invested in 4‑H and FFA youth exhibitors, and a ranking among the top ten livestock shows and rodeos in the state, the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and Rodeo truly lives up to the Texas saying, “Everything’s Bigger in Texas!”

The Rodeo

Rodeo fans can look forward to a packed lineup of PRCA sanctioned action, featuring all the classic events that keep crowds on their feet. Saddle bronc, bareback, tie‑down roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing, team roping, and bull riding will all return to the arena, along with themed nights and standout competitors who bring excitement year after year.

The Livestock Show

The Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show gives Texas youth an incredible platform to showcase their talents and demonstrate exceptional animal‑husbandry skills as they present their lambs, swine, poultry, cattle, and more. After months, and often years, of caring for and preparing their animals, 4‑H and FFA exhibitors flock to the RGV Livestock show as they proudly represent the future of agriculture. Their dedication not only highlights the importance of youth involvement in the industry but also inspires continued growth and innovation for generations to come.
