The 106th Annual Pendleton Round-Up

Written by

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The 106th annual Pendleton Round-Up concluded September 16 and the countdown has already begun for the 107th in 2017. The Round-Up has been a staple event in the world of Western tradition and professional bull riding for well over a century now, and it continues to grow every single year.
This year’s Round-Up was no different, thousands of Western  fans flocked into Oregon from around the country for the famous Pendleton Round-Up. They were treated to the likes of parades, teepee villages, Happy Canyon performances reenacting the lives of the Natives who lived in the area, and two nights of Professional Bull RidingRiders.
“It brings the top-name cowboys out. The Pendleton Rodeo is one of the longest running rodeos, I thinks it’s in the 106th year,” Gabe Lopez said.
A moment later, Lopez added “It’s one of the major stops for the cowboys, great history, great culture, its just one of the best rodeos around.”
The Round-Up is more than a competition or week long show, it is about tradition and commitment, from the people who run the show, to the ones who travel from other states to visit.
“This is my 15th year coming here to the Pendleton Round-Up, it’s awesome, and it’s so much fun. The weather is great, and the cowboys are great too,” Melanie from Redmond, Washington said.
The Round-Up also brings out top name Western apparel stores like Hamley and Co. who sell apparel and equipment during the week long event.
For Hamleys, this is the best time of the year to be working, “It’s the best time of the year to be working here, we shape all the hats and sell saddles, it’s really a great place to be,” said Angel Murillo. “The rodeo brings in a lot of customers, a lot of famous people you would never expect to meet. The rodeo itself is a real big deal.”
