79th Annual Tohono O’odham Nation Rodeo & Fair in Sells, AZ

The 79th Annual Tohono O’odham Nation Rodeo & Fair will begin January 27, 2017 and continue through January 29, 2017. The weekend will be full of entertainment, as this exciting event offers several fun activities. The event will be held at the Eugene P. Tashquinth Sr. Livestock Complex, which is only three miles west of Sells, Arizona. This location is along state route 86.

Event History

The rodeo and fair began in 1939 with the All Indian Rodeo Competition. This tradition is still popular today, which means contestants travel from many areas to compete for championship titles in Sells. Furthermore, this event provides a chance to highlight the history and culture of the Tohono O’odham Nation. The blending of history and entertainment results in a broad range of weekend happenings for cowboy and cowgirl fans.

Activities

The weekend is full of enjoyment because a wide variety of activities take place. The All Indian Junior Rodeo will take place on Friday, January 27. Roping events will take place after this junior event ends. Adult competition rodeos will be held over the next two days. The following activities will also be held:
Booths featuring arts and crafts will also be featured, along with games and other fun exhibits. The event offers several fun activities for fans of all ages. Younger fans will especially enjoy being a part of the fair atmosphere and seeing a parade full of beautiful floats. Dancing and visiting food booths during this event in Sells can provide a meaningful cultural experience as visitors engage in the traditions of the Tohono O’odham Nation.

Competitions

Cheering for a favorite contestant can be a thrilling part of attending this Tohono O’odham Nation event. Competition winners are awarded with prizes, and there are categories available for ladies and men. Media coverage will be provided by the Cowboy Lifestyle NetworkAk-Chin Indian CommunityEarnhardt Auto Centers and Papa John’s Pizza Road Team. This weekend event offers a chance for visitors with varying interests to enjoy themselves. Athletic visitors will enjoy participating in the sporting tournaments or the fun run.
