[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]From September 6 to the 9, Central Idaho will once again host the Lewiston Roundup Rodeo, an official Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association event that has been taking place for more than eight decades. The 2017 edition of the Lewiston Roundup Rodeo is honored to have a major sponsor that is representative of women who embrace the country and western lifestyle: She’s Wild Ultra Premium Vodka, proudly distilled in the Gem State.
The main event of the Lewiston Roundup Rodeo is the PRCA Xtreme Bulls competition, sponsored by Inland Cellular. The fun starts the day before the main event with the Roundup Slack, which features free admission for the public starting around 8:00 p.m. Family night is scheduled for September 7, and the final performance on the 8 will be preceded by Country Day at the Clearwater River Casino and Lodge complete with a concert by Collin Raye at 2:00 p.m. and free shuttles to the rodeo arena.
Fun for the Entire Family
The PRCA Xtreme Bulls competitions will include riding and roping. The current champion in the All-Around Cowboy category is Shay Carroll; in the bull riding category, the 2016 champ was Cody Miller. As usual, the Sankey Pro Rodeo and Robinson Bulls will challenge the brave riders.
Various charitable organizations have partnered with the Lewiston Roundup Rodeo. Tough Enough to Wear Pink, a charity that promotes breast cancer awareness will hold a special night as well as a free workshop for “Chicks and Chaps” who would like to learn rodeo activities while they enjoy snacks and beverages. A parade will be held on the morning of September 9, and several amateur events will be held throughout the week.
A longstanding tradition of the Lewiston Roundup involves honoring rodeo royalty, local personalities who have distinguished themselves as organizers and entertainers. Since 1935, the Roundup has been graced by the Rodeo Sweethearts who take preside over the competitions with their beauty and grace; the Sweetheart Queens this year are involved in sports, healthcare and animal husbandry.

Peter Varlet

Peter Varlet’s the cowboy critic you love to hate, until he’s right. Born during a thunderstorm in 1972 in Bismarck, North Dakota, he grew up watching his WWII vet dad battle to save their farm from corporate claws. Now, Peter’s the unapologetic voice of Western culture, with a historian’s grip on America’s past, acknowledging both its heroes and hypocrites. His truth to power articles are a no-holds-barred zone for rodeo reviews, cowboy movie takedowns, and ranching tricks that work. He’ll tell you why your country singer’s a fraud and how to fix a fence with only baling wire and spite. Peter despises corporate factory farms taking over and cherishes the DIY grit of real Americans. Politically correct? Nope. Trustworthy? Damn straight. He’s saving the West, one brutal truth at a time.
