For those of you who are unfamiliar with the American Bucking Bull Incorporated (ABBI), is a bull registry set up to preserve and record the pedigrees of the world’s most premier bucking bull stock. Here is their opening mission statement from their website,
“American Bucking Bull, Inc. (“ABBI”) is dedicated to unifying, developing and promoting the bucking bull industry through pedigree preservation; enhancement and promotion of bucking bull ownership, breeding, and welfare; and development of programs and events showcasing the world’s finest bucking bull stock.”
You might be asking yourself why there is a need for a registry of bucking bulls. The answer is as simple as being able to preserve the bucking bull heritage and promoting the growth of the sport in a way that’s structured and beneficial for everyone involved. In partnership with the PBR, ABBI wants to promote participation in the bucking bull industry by those who live it everything single day, the owners, breeders, and trainers of these bulls.
The American Bucking Bull Incorporated (ABBI) has its 2019 World Finals at the South Point Hotel, right around the corner. Check-in for the bulls starts on November 1st and the events kick off on November 2nd with the Chris Shivers Miniature Bull Riders World Finals and the PVT Finals / ABBI Derby / WC Classic. This year, there have been additional money added to the individual classes, you can check that out here.
On November 3rd there will be a Stock Contractor Church Service for all ABBI and PBR stock contractors on Sunday, Nov. 3rd in the Brunswick Room at the South Point Hotel. Before church, there will be fellowship with breakfast burritos and a 30-minute seminar about nutrition and bovine health brought to you by Dr. Harry Anderson of Total Feeds at 9 AM. The church service will follow. This opportunity is limited to the first hundred through the door, so arrive early to ensure your spot and breakfast burrito! Total Feeds has been a loyal sponsor of ABBI for the last three years and is excited to be returning. Check out the video below with Jerome Davis speaking from experience with his own bull’s health.
According to a Press Release from ABBI’s website,
“This sale will consist of the best yearling bulls from the TOP breeders in our industry.”
This means that only the best of the best will make it. Thirty bulls will be sold on Thursday, Nov 7th and then compete against each other for a purse of $75,000 on Friday, November 8th & Saturday, November 9th. The seller and buyer of the top bull will also earn custom belt buckles.
Before 2003, ABBI wasn’t even around. It used to strictly be a DNA Registry, formerly known as RSR (Rodeo Stock Registry). Even back then, it was recognized that there was a need for preserving bucking bull genetics. The database ended up being the foundation of modern-day, American Bucking Bull Inc. (ABBI).
Back in the day, the largest payday a bull could earn was $20,000 for being selected as the World Champion Bucking Bull. These days, thanks to ABBI events all over the country, animals can earn as much as $500,000 between their 2 and 4-year-old years. Some of the greatest bulls in bucking bull history, like Bushwacker, have come out of the ABBI’s competition system.
