Ak-Chin Indian Community Masik Tas Carnival offers fun for all

Written by

Bring the whole family, heck bring the whole neighborhood, to enjoy the Masik Tas carnival December 14-16! You’ll find food, fun, and entertainment for all ages, hosted by the Ak-Chin Indian Community. The free carnival is part of Masik Tas, an annual birthday celebration of the formal recognition of the Ak-Chin Indian Community 11 years ago. Events and activities are open to all.

The carnival runs Friday, 4-10:30 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, 12-7 p.m. at Ak-Chin Circle near the UltraStar Multi-tainment Center. Enjoy thrilling rides and delicious food. The fun zone features traditional carnival games, and kids will love visiting animals in the petting zoo.
On Saturday and Sunday afternoon, look for traditional performers and cultural demonstrations from members of the Ak-Chin Indian Community. On Saturday evening, local groups take the main stage from 5-10 p.m., including Friends, Los Hermanos Cuatros, and the Ak-Chin Band.

When the carnival closes on Saturday evening, head on over to the Luxe Lounge for even more entertainment. Two Rivers performs at 10 p.m. at the Luxe Lounge, the luxurious 21-and-over venue upstairs in the UltraStar Multi-tainment Center at Ak-Chin Circle. Make a night of it!
The carnival is one of several free events to celebrate Masik Tas. Other fun events include an Ak-Chin Indian Community basketball tournament for men and women, an Elder chair volleyball tournament and the Toka/Songivu’l Traditional Games, which feature competition among Ak-Chin Indian Community members. All are welcome to watch these matches.

All of the free Masik Tas activities and fun will take place at Ak-Chin Circle near the UltraStar Multi-tainment Center, 16000 N. Maricopa Road, in Maricopa. The events are open to public attendance or viewing. Come and learn more about the Ak-Chin Indian Community and have a great time with family and friends!

Now, her Western adventures with CLN have her diving into the rugged automotive scene, exploring the trucks and rigs cowboys rely on for work, home, and play, a niche where grit meets horsepower. She works at Raising Special Kids, a nonprofit resource center for families of children with disabilities and special healthcare needs. Carolyn also volunteers with the Autism Society of Greater Phoenix. Carolyn believes that everyone has a story, and she loves connecting with others to hear their stories.
