[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]You’ll find plenty of fun, food, and celebrations within the Ak-Chin Indian Community to round out your Thanksgiving plans!
Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino offers a bounty of giveaways throughout November. Throwback Thursdays happen each week, offering guests age 21 and older $10 in free slot play or 1,000 reward credits. After earning at least one Tier Credit at your favorite slot machine, reinsert your Total Rewards card to collect your prizes. Throwback Thursdays happen every Thursday in November from 8 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.
If you’d like a little more dough to put toward that turkey purchase, come back to Harrah’s on Saturday, November 17, for the Fry’s gift card giveaway. Receive $20 in Fry’s gift cards after earning 150 tier credits on November 17 from 6 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.
Or, if you prefer to have someone else cook the Thanksgiving dinner, you’ll find great choices within the Ak-Chin Indian Community. The 347 Grill at the UltraStar Multi-tainment Center at Ak-Chin Circle serves up Thanksgiving dinner for $22 per person. Kids age 6-12 get this deal for just $14.95, and kids age 5 and under eat for free. Savor a traditional Thanksgiving meal with oven-roasted turkey breast, citrus cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing with sausage, green beans almondine, and fresh, hot rolls with whipped butter. Save room for the dessert course too — pumpkin pie with fresh whipped cream is sure to please. Reservations are highly recommended; call 520-233-2426 to save your spot.
Before Thanksgiving dinner is ready, you can have a great time for a good cause. The Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club hosts its annual Turkey Day Shootout on Thursday, November 22, with a fun, four-person scramble. The entry is $89 per person, which includes a donation to Phoenix Children’s Hospital, a continental breakfast before the 9 a.m. shotgun start, and 18 holes of golf. All proceeds benefit Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
Don’t miss these great opportunities for fun and feasting with family and friends![/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Carolyn Sostrom is a long-time Arizona resident who loves desert sunsets, warm weather, Zumba, and the Western lifestyle. She attended Saguaro High School in Scottsdale and then Arizona State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Similarly to the protagonist in *The Devil Wears Prada*, Carolyn moved to New York City right after college. She started working for the fashion magazine company Conde Nast but never transitioned to the dark side. After a few years, she left New York in the rearview mirror and returned to her home state, taking a reporter job at the *Apache Junction Independent*. With over 30 years of freelance writing experience, Carolyn especially enjoys writing about community events and profiling individuals who are making a difference in their communities. She had the pleasure of interviewing a variety of cowboy personalities for an article she wrote for the *Scottsdale Independent* about the history of DC Ranch and its roots as a working ranch. Now, her Western adventures with CLN have her diving into the rugged automotive scene, exploring the trucks and rigs cowboys rely on for work, home, and play, a niche where grit meets horsepower. She works at Raising Special Kids, a nonprofit resource center for families of children with disabilities and special healthcare needs. Carolyn also volunteers with the Autism Society of Greater Phoenix. Carolyn believes that everyone has a story, and she loves connecting with others to hear their stories. She’s dedicated to ethical journalism and accurate reporting, which shines through in her storytelling.
