That time of the year has once again arrived for the Amarillo Tri State Fair and Tri State Rodeo. More commonly known as the Amarillo Tri-State Exposition, this is one of the finest and most wholesome events in the Texas Panhandle. Each year, families from New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas flock to the Amarillo Tri State Rodeo to experience all the excitement that the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) has to offer.
The Amarillo Tri State Fair will take place from September 15 to September 23 at the Amarillo National Center on SE 10th Avenue. The PRCA Tri State Rodeo events will be held on September 21, 22 and 23. Tickets for the rodeo cost $15 each night; they went on sale on August 11 and can be purchased online at TriStateFair.com prior to 7:00 pm each night. Although local PRCA riders tend to shine at this rodeo every year, riders from South Dakota, Utah, Alberta, and Nevada dominated last year. The rodeo events will include bareback, saddle bronc and bull riding along with tie-down roping and steer wrestling. Bull riding tends to be a fan favorite, particularly when the PRCA brings out the fearsome Ironman into the ring.
The history of the Amarillo Tri State Fair dates back to 1923. This event injects more than $40 million to the economy of the Texas Panhandle every year. More than 100,000 visitors are expected to attend during the nine days of the expo, most of them families who enjoy rodeo action, extreme carnival rides and the interesting expo. The best deal for families is the $65 MegaPass, which includes full access as well as other perks such as snacks made with ingredients proudly harvested by local farmers.
The Amarillo Tri State Fair is more than just bulls, amusement rides and exhibitions. Daily shows will include a petting zoo, performances by the Rhinestone Cowgirls, concerts by country music stars such as Max Stalling, Moe Bandy and Rick Trevino, and the popular Mountain Dew Midway track. For the youngest members of the family, the Planet Fitness Kids Celebration will take place each day of the fair.
The media team in charge of covering the 2017 Tri State Fair and Rodeo includes: the Ak-Chin Indian Community, Earnhardt Auto Centers, Papa John’s Road Team, and the Cowboy Lifestyle Network.
