Looking for something to do this weekend? Art of the Cowgirl kicked off on Thursday, January 19th, and will go until Sunday, January 23rd at Horseshoe Park and Equestrian Center in Queen Creek, Arizona. After a tough year with Covid, the Art of the Cowgirl team has been gearing up to make this weekend the best event they’ve had yet. 2022 Art of the Cowgirl All Women’s Ranch Rodeo
Branding
Two calves will be let into the arena. Two team members will be on their horses, two work as ground crew. Ropers and ground grew will switch after the first calf is branded
6 Minute time limit
Time starts when flag is dropped
Trot until they break
Ropes must be set correctly on front and hind feet before calf can be branded
Branding iron can leave bucket at any time
30 seconds for brand hitting ground
60 seconds for misbranding (wrong side, upside down, etc)
Front legs are legal
Time will stop when branding iron and both ground crew are back in the circle, and ropes are off the calf
NO TIME at any point during the run for excessive roughness on cattle. ZERO TOLERANCE
In the event of a discrepancy ONLY the team captain can approach the judge. Judge’s decision is final
Team Roping
Members will split into two teams and head and heel the 2 steers turned into the arena. The flag will drop when ropes are tight and horses are faced. You cannot switch partners mid-run. All team members must rope
Two minute time limit
Time starts when flag drops
One leg +5
NO TIME if one or both teams fail to catch
NO TIME at any point during the run for excessive roughness on cattle. ZERO TOLERANCE.
Slick horns, head and half head are the only legal head catches
No front legs
In the event of a discrepancy ONLY the team captain can approach the judge. Judge’s decision is final
Ranch Horse
One rider will enter the arena and call for a cow. Cow will be boxed until rider feels she has control of the cow. Rider must go down the fence and make one fence turn (at least) past the center marker. After fence turns rider will take down her rope, neck the cow with a legal head catch and stop the cow. Run is complete when the rope is tight and the cow faces
Two loop limit
Rider is limited to two new cows
IF YOU USE TWO HANDS ON A SHANKED BIT THERE WILL BE .5 POINT PENATLY ADDED TO EACH MANEUVER
All bits/bosals are legal
No cavessons, tie downs or training aids
NO TIME at any point during the run for excessive roughness on cattle OR horse. ZERO TOLERANCE.

Tie-Down/Stray Gathering
All team members start behind the flag/line. One steer will be let into the arena. Judge drops the flag to start time. The steer must be roped with a legal head catch and tied down. Time will be called when the team and ropes are clear of the steer.
No loop limit. 4 Minute time limit
After steer is roped and mugged down, he will be tied by 3 legs. * legs must be crossed
All ropes and team members must be off steer before calling for time
Time stops when one team member raises hands after steer is tied down
Steer must stay tied for 6 seconds
NO TIME at any point during the run for excessive roughness on cattle. ZERO TOLERANCE.

Art of the Cowgirl Elite Horse Sale
The Art of the Cowgirl Elite Ranch Horse Sale is a unique event that will offer a select group of horses that are the product of some of the handiest women in the ranching industry. You can expect to find a small group of horses that showcase an equally talented group of horsewomen and provide the highest quality prospective mounts for potential buyers. Their goal is to exhibit the kind of horses that have seen real “hard days work”, and have been exposed to a variety of situations.
This sale will include money earners in Ranch Rodeo events, Rodeo events, Cow horse, and Ranch Horse Versatility. The sale will also feature seasoned ranch and trail horses. There is a small number of young prospects available, all of which have a superb foundation and are ready to go on towards a variety of disciplines. You can register to bid online here.
World’s Greatest Horsewoman
This Elite Reined Cow Horse Event is in the style of the NRCHA World’s Greatest Horseman. Each competitor will compete in four preliminary events including Reining, Herd work, Steer Stopping, and Fence Work. This event pays homage to the working cowgirl during the finals, where the Top 10 Finalists will compete for the title of World’s Greatest Horsewoman.
Herd Work
2 1⁄2 minute time limit
Judging will begin at the line
Herd help is available, competitors are also able to bring their own help
Romal reins may be used in one hand in herd work only
Using two hands will result in a 0 (one hand may hold the Romal)
With Romal reins, hand is to be around the reins in a fist position with thumb up and no fingers between the reins.

Reining
Judging will begin when horse enters arena
Using two hands will result in a 0

Steer Stopping
Electric barrier will be used
