ACM’s, new music, and touring…This is Russell Dickerson.
There is never a moment where Russell’s humor doesn’t come out in a room. Its been this way since first meeting him back in 2012. It was a small venue in Rochester Minnesota where he opened up for Love and Theft with Chase Rice. The energy and fun he has was completely contagious when he was up on stage. And as he showed the crowd this past week at The 102.5 KNIX Great American BBQ and Beer Festival, he is still not afraid to go with the flow and interact with his fans.
Watching his continued dedication to writing and performing was astounding. Then in 2017 when I was interviewing artists at the ACM’s, I saw him coming to my booth and it was like an old home week. You aren’t given much time to talk as the artists have to get around to all the radio stations that are set up, but even in that short time I found out just how excited he was about his brand new release, “YOURS.”
When “Yours” reached number one on the charts, Russell took to social media thanking his wife Kailey, along with this team, and country radio for making it all possible. It was even named the top new wedding song of the year by The Knot magazine, and they even wrote – “Yours” is “sweet, powerful and straight from the heart,” making it “everything a first dance song should be.” –
It is incredible to think that this song was co-written by him 4 years before making it to number one, now that is dedication in wanting to see your song go all the way to the top. As he said at a recent concert, he never quit believing in the song.
Russell Dickerson- “as soon as “Yours” came out it just clicked…ya know everybody talks about it (the song) but, it’s crazy that my first song gets to be the one that clicks and it’s just really exciting.”
Fast forward to his second release “Blue Tacoma” that grabbed the number one spot while he’s been out on tour with Thomas Rhett, Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker. A cool lil fact is that Russell’s wife Kailey has been the director on these last two music videos for the songs and she has nailed it! With a budget of only $6 on “Yours” Russell joked, it featured him walking on a highway with Kailey filming out of the back of a vehicle and again in “Blue Tacoma” it features footage her and her husband driving along the highway in a Toyota Tacoma.
Russell is not slowing down one bit. He has just released his 3rd song called “Every little thing” and has been doing a YouTube series called “This is Russ” where you get to see all the behind the scenes of him and his beautiful wife in everyday life. It is not dull by any means! Plus at the time of writing this article, Russell is up for the ACM’s song of the year with YOURS. I will keep my fingers crossed that he wins that ACM and that his newest song, Every Little Thing, gives him a trifecta of number 1’s.
