Powerful hoofbeats pound the arena floor as dirt flies and fans cheer. Music blasts in the stadium but the tension remains thick as audience members watch the action from the edge of their seats. The only sound loud enough to cut through the music, bellowing bulls, and the clang of metal bucking chutes, is the echo of the buzzer marking eight seconds. The cowboy made the ride! A cacophony of cheering fans erupts as the announcer congratulates the cowboy and announces his score. The energy is palpable as it bounces back and forth across the stadium walls. Our cowboy wipes the sweat from his brow and stands proudly as he lifts his cowboy hat high. This is Professional Bull Riding.
Since its inception in 1992, Professional Bull Riding (PBR) has made its mark on the sports world, proving a great success standalone from rodeo. Now one of the most highly televised sporting events, PBR has transformed from humble beginnings as a shared vision of 20 bull riders who wished to expand from the traditional rodeo scene to a mainstream sports experience that has taken America and beyond by storm.
While bull riding in its traditional form is an individual sport, PBR has broken free from the status quo and has employed teams. But how could teams possibly work in bull riding?
The PBR Camping World Team Series is in a league of its own. With the world’s top bull riders competing in five-on-five games, teams are judged by the traditional 8-second scoring matrix with a tournament-style approach. With ten teams competing in the 2024 series, only one can take the prize at the 2024 championship in sunny Las Vegas, Nevada on October 18th -20th.
“Each game features five riders per team squaring off against another team. Full team rosters are comprised of seven riders on the Protected Roster and five Reserve riders. The team with the highest aggregate score of qualified rides among its riders is declared the winner of each game. All PBR Teams events are carried on either the CBS Television Network, streaming live on Paramount+, CBS Sports Network, or RidePass on Pluto TV.”
