Music Monday: Authentic Cowboy, Chancey Williams

Written by

Wyoming native, Chancey Williams is described as an “authentic cowboy” by many who know him. Growing up in one of the least populated areas of the United States, Williams grew up on a ranch and is one of only two musicians who have ridden in the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo as well as performed its main stage, second only to Chris Ledoux. Throughout the years, Chancey has toured the country and, keeping true to his roots, performed at notable events such as the National Rodeo Finals. This year, Williams will once again be gracing the main stage at Cheyenne Frontier Days alongside Dierks Bentley.

During the 2021 NFR, Williams released, The Saint, “an old school justice and revenge song I wrote with Trent Willmon. I was inspired by an old western I like,” says Chancey. “This is eye-for-an-eye old west style. Is he a sinner or a saint? Is he justified or just a killer? You decide.” Brilliantly written, listeners will be transported straight into a Clint Eastwood movie as they take in the lyrics of The Saint. You can almost feel the angst and want for revenge as you hear the story of a child whose family was murdered and grew up wanting to avenge them.

Fans of Chancey Williams are in for a wild ride with his newest single, released just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, called On the Tear Tonight. Unlike anything else Williams has released up to this point, On the Tear, Tonight is an Irish drinking song that is heavily driven by his fiddle player, Brooke Latka. Chancey exclaims, “we’re really excited for this one to come out! It’s a sound that we’ve never done before, but we wanted to give our fans something fun and different.” In addition to his upcoming single, Williams and his band are currently working on finishing up a whole new album, to be released later this year. In the meantime, you can download his new single here.

Currently touring across the western region of the United States, fans of Williams are in for a treat as he will soon be announcing tour stops with Parker McCollum, Jo Dee Messina, and more this summer. Be sure to visit his website for more information and tour dates: www.chanceywilliams.com.Cheyenne Frontier Days tickets go on sale on March 16th at 8 am MT.
