Belly Dump Brings Home the Gold For Cody Resor and Family

A full 10 days watching the top 120 rodeo contestants in the world compete for gold, but what about the stock contractors? Well if you were paying attention, you would have heard the name Cody Resor mentioned multiple times throughout those 10 nights under the Thomas & Mack. Mr. Resor is the owner of a 4-year-old bull named “Belly Dump” who brought home 2 round winning buckles this year at the National Finals Rodeo. The first was on night 4 with Stetson Wright riding him for 92. The second was on night 9 with Trey Holston riding for a score of 89.5.

Mr. Resor is from Wilcox, Az where he and his wife Allison raise their 2 boys. As well as owning and operating a cow-calf operation, a trucking company and of course the well-known Salt River Rodeo Company. Cody has been contracting the pro rodeos since 2009 when he decided to become a partner of the Salt River Rodeo Company alongside Jerry Dorenkamp. But he first started gaining a large interest in stock contracting at the young age of 16 thanks to Bobby Delvico, a family friend of the Resors’. From there it was all history, Cody has been putting on rodeos for the last 20 years and has done very well for himself.

Within the 2022 rodeo year, Cody won the top saddle bronc with 311 Flirtin Voice, top bull with 546 Tonto, for the Turquoise Circuit year-end awards, and had the top saddle bronc of the Turquoise Circuit Finals with 640 Buckshot and then wrapped up the year by having the round winning bull, Belly Dump, 2 nights at the 2022 NFR. For some it is simply just a dream to have one of their animals in such a large rodeo, even more so to have them win a round. So to have one bull win you 2 buckles in 10 days at the largest rodeo of the year is a HUGE accomplishment.

Q: How does it feel to have your bull “Belly Dump” win 2 rounds at the finals?

Cody: It feels amazing, I am extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity. There are a lot of people who have been doing this much longer than I have been dreaming of this day, so I’m blessed to have come home with not only 1 but 2 round wins. It is unreal.

Q: Do you have any tips for someone who is seeking this lifestyle?

Cody: Chase your dreams, and with God, you can accomplish anything.

Q: What are some things you do to help prepare your horses and bulls before a big rodeo?

Cody: The biggest thing we can do for them is to make sure that they have the proper feed and are getting the right nutrition, bucking them is the easy part. We want to make sure that when they get out of the trailer after a long haul that they are healthy and in the best shape possible.

Cody purchased Belly Dump back in August of 2022 from Hayden Wilson. He states that Belly Dump has had about 16 outs, and traveled roughly over 8500 miles to 6 different states before going to the NFR in December. He mentioned that every time they would pull into a rodeo even after being in the trailer for hours, Belly Dump hits the ground and starts to play and make friends right away. It is very clear that he knows his job and he loves it.

Cody mentions that in the future they would like to have 5 bulls at the NFR. He would also like to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped make this dream a reality. Especially his wife Allison and his kids for taking care of the trucking business and his amazing crew for all they have done!
