Rapid City, South Dakota – The time has come again for the Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo® from January 31-February 8, 2025! Celebrating all their years of wild western action, Rapid City, South Dakota is ready to go as they prepare for the 2025 Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo® where rodeo and stock show fans alike come on out and “Do Big Things!”
The Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo® is the second largest event in the state of South Dakota following the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. An estimated 331,000 people attend the western festival that features 120 different livestock, horse and rodeo events along with over 300 vendors to shop from. The little Midwestern City becomes a slice of the Old West when cowboys and ranchers come to town to compete in ten different breeds of cattle shows, ranch rodeos and 14 different horse events. There is something for everyone, including a beer festival, Bullfighters Only, All American Sheep Day, concerts by Jackson Dean with Bart Crow and Ian Munsick with Colby Acuff, and more.
With a history rich in farming and ranching and originating from an idea to protect and honor agriculture communities, the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo® were born. With humble beginnings in 1958, members of the Rapid City Chamber Ag Committee aimed to combine the rural lifestyle with the quickly growing urban community of Rapid City. Starting out as a stock show showcasing only three breeds of cattle (Angus, Hereford, and Shorthorn,) the “Winter Show,” as it was originally called, made a splash in Rapid City and continued to grow and thrive. Each year saw great improvement as more breeds of cattle were added to the lineup. In 1966, the Winter Show received the new name, The Black Hills Stock Show® when ownership of the event was passed on to Central States Fair, INC. It wasn’t until 1978 that the first “Winter Rodeo” occurred in conjunction with the stock show.
“We showcase agriculture, tourism, and our community.”
