Bob Feist Invitational 2022

Written by

The world’s richest one-day roping for pros is coming back this year for its 45th anniversary on April 2nd, 2022. The Bob Feist Invitational 2022 is happening on a Saturday for the first time in history, and it’s bound to make a statement! The BFI is calling Lazy E Arena in Gutherie, Oklahoma home once again, and they are ready to welcome some of the best team ropers in the industry to town. With a purse of $650,000 and 125 of the best teams all coming together for a one-day event, you are not going to want to miss this.

The Bob Feist Invitational is truly a unique experience and sets itself apart from other ropings. The tensions are high and the excitement is buzzing as team ropers compete for a 97% purse payout! The arena they compete in is not what you would typically expect to see a team roping held in. With a 440-foot arena and a barrier stretched to 35 feet, it takes extra grit for these cowboys to rope 6 clean runs in a row.

The BFI first started when Bob Fiest himself wondered what would happen if he was to set up an invitational event allowing only the best teams to compete under tough circumstances, for clean runs and high payout? He wasn’t looking for just tough cowboys though, but the best horsepower and the strongest cattle to pair. This was and continues to be the reason the BFI has set itself apart from other team ropings. Top-notch competitors and animals performing at their best under high pressure and even higher stakes.

The BFI first began in Chowchilla, California, and then moved around to Las Vegas and Texas, finding its home for the last 35 years in Reno, Nevada at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center. After having success in Reno for many years the BFI has recently relocated to Gutherie, Oklahoma after moving in 2020 due to covid protocols.

Although it used to be called The Most Anticipated Monday of the year, no matter what day the BFI lands on, team ropers will be there. This has turned into one of the most highly anticipated events of the year for team roping competitors and fans. The first team ropes at 9:00 am sharp, and by the time the final round comes around, there is not an empty seat in the house!

Wrangler BFI Week presented by Yeti runs through March 31s- April 5th. Although Saturday, April 2nd is the big day, there are team roping competitions going on all week including the Hooey Jr BFI, BFI Legends, Dummy Roping, and more. You can get your tickets for the Bob Feist Invitational 2022 in person at the Lazy E Box Office, by calling 405-282-RIDE or online.
