[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Billed as “the most anticipated Monday of the year,” the Bob Feist Invitational will have its 41st anniversary as the start of the Wrangler BFI Week and the Reno Rodeo, the “Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West.” that will be held at the indoor arena of the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center from June 18 through June 21, 2018. This will be the 34th year that this competition will be held in Reno! Sponsored by Wrangler, the Bob Feist Invitational is the most respected event among team ropers who appreciate smooth roping as an art and a great spectator sport.
Monday, June 18, will be the date that this Invitational will feature 100 of the best and most elite open and amateur teams. They will be in a competition of over six rounds of roping for a total of $800,000 in cash and prizes as well as coveted BFI buckles. It occurs during that Reno (Nevada) Rodeo when the cowboys are in town to kick off the summer tour with its total collective prizes of $2.1 million.
The BFI’s $500,000 purse itself makes it the richest one-day Open Roping in the world. The tremendous sponsors have maintained holding just three percent of the half-million dollars for administrative costs and have been able to tweak the payoff to reward each team that makes the final round.
Tickets
The doors will open at 7:00 AM and there will be a grand entry, teams introduction, and the national anthem. The first team will rope at 8:00 AM sharp. Tickets can be purchased at the door on the day of the competition. They will be $25.00 for adults with children under age 10 free. The other Tuesday through Thursday events will be free to the public. Entry fees for each team is now $5,000.
Two of the Champions
Luke Brown, the King of Consistency, who had his first BFI in 1998, finally got the win along with Jake Long during last year’s 40th anniversary Invitational on June 19, 2017, in Reno. Brown’s one-half of the $120,000 made him the third all-time money leader.
Brown and Long won the first-place paycheck together with a treasure trove of prizes that included customized saddles, Justin full-quill ostrich boots, Gist buckles, Bex sunglasses, Yeti coolers, retail certificates, and more.

Peter Varlet

Peter Varlet’s the cowboy critic you love to hate, until he’s right. Born during a thunderstorm in 1972 in Bismarck, North Dakota, he grew up watching his WWII vet dad battle to save their farm from corporate claws. Now, Peter’s the unapologetic voice of Western culture, with a historian’s grip on America’s past, acknowledging both its heroes and hypocrites. His truth to power articles are a no-holds-barred zone for rodeo reviews, cowboy movie takedowns, and ranching tricks that work. He’ll tell you why your country singer’s a fraud and how to fix a fence with only baling wire and spite. Peter despises corporate factory farms taking over and cherishes the DIY grit of real Americans. Politically correct? Nope. Trustworthy? Damn straight. He’s saving the West, one brutal truth at a time.
