Caldwell Night Rodeo 2021

Written by

Calling all rodeo fans! In just a few weeks, the Gem State will be hosting one of her most prized events in Canyon County, the 2021 Caldwell Night Rodeo is on for this August and we are here for its hype! Almost 100 years ago, Idaho ranchers would stir up competition between each other for fun. Today it is named one of the Top 5 Large Outdoor Rodeos in the country. As a stop on the professional rodeo tour, Caldwell is a familiar place to the best cowboys and cowgirls in the world.

Caldwell, nicknamed the “County Seat” of Canyon County, owes its roots to the Oregon Short Line Railroad. It is also home to the Canyon County Fair, Indian Creek Festival, College of Idaho, and Our Memories Indian Creek Museum.  Just like its town, the story behind this rodeo is rich in history. It originally began as one of the festivities celebrating the anniversary of irrigation on the Boise project. It became the first nighttime rodeo in Southern Idaho, hence its name. It was also the first rodeo in the Pacific Northwest to be held under lights. Over the years the annual event made location changes and was even put on pause due to the war. But today it stands as strong as ever attracting tens of thousands of fans, showcasing more than 600 rodeo athletes over its five-day span.

Not only does Caldwell host five consecutive professional rodeo performances throughout the week it takes place, it also holds other events such as the Miss CNR banquet and coronation, junior rodeo and bull riding, Buckaroo Breakfast, and barrel racing slack. There is even a bit of roleplay that fans get to partake of as they participate in the division between the infamous “Rowdies” and “Civies” at each rodeo.

The prestigious Caldwell Night Rodeo packs the stands with more than 45,000 over the 5-day span of fun. It is no wonder it is rated one of the top 20 professional rodeos in the nation, and one of the 101 Best Events in the West by American Cowboy Magazine. Caldwell never disappoints!

Caldwell Night Rodeo will kick off with the first rodeo performance on Tuesday, August 17th, going all the way until the last performance on Saturday, August 21st. Ticket information can be found on https://caldwellnightrodeo.com/event-calendar/ . We can’t wait to see you there!
