Fun happenings promote cancer awareness in the Ak-Chin Indian Community

Written by

This October, Campaign for the Cause events hosted around the Ak-Chin Indian Community generated lots of fun while also raising awareness about men’s and women’s cancers.
In the Superhero Battle for the Cause fashion show, teams of employees from Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino and the UltraStar Multi-tainment Center at Ak-Chin Circle showcased their designs. Each team created boxers or bras to be considered for the show, and the winners modeled their creations on Saturday, October 20. All had a good time! Casino guests received a preview on Friday, November 19, as contestants paraded through the casino in their garb.
Guests can purchase cancer “Awareness Crew” shirts for $15 at the casino gift shop throughout October and November. A portion of the proceeds from gift shop sales will go to the American Cancer Society.
Casino guests can even support cancer awareness by selecting the October featured drink special—the Pink Warrior. A portion of drink sale proceeds throughout October also benefits the American Cancer Society.
Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino participates in these events through its parent company, Caesar’s Entertainment. Several locations hold similar events, and the top three properties judged to spread the most awareness about cancer will receive grant money donated to their local American Cancer Society chapter.
Guests can help Harrah’s Ak-Chin win the competition by tagging and sharing social media posts with this year’s tag: #LifeatCesars. Harrah’s has received top recognition in the past as the top location for the social media “like” and “share” contest among all Caesar’s properties.
Also, Phoenix Children’s Hospital benefits from the generosity of Harrah’s employees and guests. In 2017, Harrah’s Ak-Chin employees and guests crocheted more than 350 handmade hats for children at the hospital. In 2018, employees and guests are invited to crochet blankets of any size to be donated. See the front hotel desk for more information.
The UltraStar Multi-tainment Center at Ak-Chin Circle also served up specials for cancer awareness month. The Pink Combo offered a popcorn tub and cup for $12, good for $5 popcorn refills and $1 soda refills for a year. Alternatively, for $2 more, guests could score a specialty popcorn combo, with $6 specialty popcorn refills. A percentage of sales will be donated to the Impact One Breast Cancer Foundation, a network of female breast cancer survivors and fighters.
Spreading awareness about breast cancer and other types of cancers is a priority to the Ak-Chin Indian Community and its enterprises because of the number of people affected by cancer.
If you missed this year’s events, keep an eye out for next October’s lineup. Don’t miss the opportunity to have a good time and support a good cause too!
