Celebrate Hispanic Heritage at UltraStar Multi-tainment Center at Ak-Chin Circle

Written by

Look no further for a festive event to get the kids out and learning! Come to the Hispanic Heritage Month festival on Saturday, October 5, at the UltraStar Multi-tainment Center at Ak-Chin Circle. It’s an evening of outdoor fun starting at 5:30 p.m.

National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed nationally between September 15 and October 15, with observances that pay tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have contributed to our country. This event is sponsored by City of Maricopa Councilwoman Julia Gusse and the City of Maricopa, hosted by the Maricopa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the UltraStar Multi-tainment Center at Ak-Chin Circle.

Look for different cultural displays. Visitors can also participate in making craft flowers and papel picado. Papel Picado is a decorative craft made by cutting elaborate designs into sheets of tissue paper. A DJ will spin festive music, and those who compete in the Grito contest will try to make the most joyful noise of celebration.

September evenings can still be quite warm, so a Slip ‘N Slide will be available starting at 5:30 p.m. to cool everyone down. Wear a swimsuit and bring a towel — it’ll be fun for kids and adults alike!

Stick around after the sun goes down to enjoy the Disney Pixar film Coco on the Jumbotron starting at 7 p.m. This popular movie is inspired by the Mexican Day of the Dead holiday, where families celebrate those who passed away. Bring blankets or lawn chairs to enjoy the show.

The Hispanic Heritage Month celebration is free and open to the public. Outdoor concessions will be available for sale; no outside food or beverages please. Try Elote, Mexican grilled corn, for $5, along with popovers and margaritas for sale for guests age 21 and older.

Why not make a full day of it at the UltraStar Multi-tainment Center at Ak-Chin Circle? Come early to visit the arcade, or take your crew bowling at Ten Pins Down or to play laser tag at Urban Arena. If you’re hungry for more than snacks, enjoy a full meal at 347 Grill before the event. You can also visit Cones Cafe for a sweet treat or coffee drink before or after.

Gather the kids and family members and come on out for a great time at the Hispanic Heritage celebration at the UltraStar Multi-tainment Center at Ak-Chin Circle!

She works at Raising Special Kids, a nonprofit resource center for families of children with disabilities and special healthcare needs.
