Rodeo fans from all over are filled with grateful and ecstatic hearts, after hearing perhaps one of the most exciting pieces of rodeo news this year. The renowned, beloved, and ever-so-famous Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo, the ‘Daddy of Em All’, is on for 2021. After being canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, spectators and competitors are overjoyed to see the Cheyenne rodeo gates open once again after such a long time. Over the span of 10 days, some of the best cowboys and cowgirls in existence will perform and deliver, while the most fanatic rodeo enthusiasts pack the stands to watch. It is no wonder that for the sixteenth time this was named the Large Outdoor Rodeo of the Year by the PRCA at the National Finals Banquet in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In 1897, Cheyenne held its first ‘Frontier Day’ as a suggested idea by Frederick W. Angier. At the time it was considered a cowboy roundup, consisting of pony races and bronco busting. Now, almost 125 years later, it has added on 9 more days of festivities and accumulated other affiliated rodeo events along the way. Today, elite rodeo athletes compete for more than $1 million in prizes and cash. Cheyenne continues to wow its spectators and competitors after a long stretch of time and plans to do so for another.
Aside from the famed nightly rodeo event, Cheyenne puts on a variety of other festivities to commemorate this annual celebration. These include a wild horse race, invitational western art show, live concerts with prominent country artists, a chuckwagon experience, PBR ‘Last Cowboy Standing’, carnival attractions, behind-the-chute tours, a grand parade, and more. It is needless to say there are no shortages of attractions in Cheyenne, Wyoming during its esteemed Frontier Days.
In preparation for the Cheyenne Frontier Days 125th anniversary in 2022, CFD has been fundraising and plans to erect a bronze statue of the rodeo cowboy and country music artist, Christ Ledoux. This statue will be added to their large collection of sculptures on Frontier Park. You can contribute with your own donations at https://www.cfdrodeo.com/cheyenne-frontier-days-foundation/.
Cheyenne Frontier Days 2021 will kick off on July 23 and continue all the way until August 1, 2021. Visit https://www.cfdrodeo.com/ for ticket and event info.
