Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo 2015

Written by

There’s no other celebration quite like the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. Hosted every summer for more than 100 years, it’s a place where a cowboy can roam freely among parades, art shows and country music concerts.

It contains events like the Cinch Shootout and the U.S. Air Force Thunderbird Arial Demonstration. It even has a pro rodeo with millions of dollars in prizes!

So what is this historic celebration? What can you expect to experience in what’s called “The Daddy of Em All” of western festivals? Here’s a quick guide to Frontier Days.

Where

The action takes place in Cheyenne, the capital of Wyoming. The hosts freely encourage you to explore the natural beauty of the state even beyond the festival itself. For example, if you’re a cowboy with an adventurous spirit, you might want to go trekking through Yellowstone National Park.

When

Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo 2015 takes place on July 17-26. Tickets are available both for specific events and as “all-season” passes that will get you into concerts and pro rodeos alike. You can also purchase special package deals if you only want entry to certain kinds of events and not others. For example, if you’re a cowgirl looking to try your luck at the chuckwagon cookoff, you can buy tickets for it and related festivities specifically.

Who

More than 200,000 people attend The Daddy of Em All every year. 80,000 come for the pro rodeo alone, making it one of the festival’s biggest draws, though its concerts are another popular stop. 23,000 watched Tim McGraw perform in 2014, and even more are expected to come for Miranda Lambert and Keith Urban in 2015.

The types of attendees are just as varied as the events. It isn’t uncommon to see a cowgirl walking hand-in-hand with a bull wrangler, and many Native Americans also take the opportunity to share their culture with visitors in the Indian Village.

What

There’s so much to see and do at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo that it’s impossible to list everything, but here are just a few of the activities you can expect to enjoy:

  • Pro rodeo
  • Barrel racing
  • Pancake breakfasts
  • Parades
  • Carnivals
  • Air Force demonstration
  • Concerts
  • Cookoffs
  • Museums
  • Art galleries

As you can see, the fun never stops at The Daddy of Em All. Whether you’re a cowboy hoping to test your luck in the rodeo or a cowgirl just looking for the experience of a lifetime, make sure you stop by Frontier Days this year.
