Chris LeDoux Inspired Rodeo Road Trip

Written by

If you’re anything like us then you love a good road trip. Lately, we have been covering travel destinations from the Navajo Nation, but today we thought it would be fun to mix it up and feature a rodeo itinerary that Chris LeDoux would have traveled to himself. This article is brought to you by Drink Just LeDoux It, who is actively working to keep the spirit of Chris LeDoux alive through their spirit lines.

Cheyenne Frontier Days | Cheyenne, Wyoming | July 21-31, 2022

Lovingly called the “Daddy of ’em all”, Cheyenne Frontier Days is the World’s Largest Outdoor Rodeo and Western Celebration. It is one of those rodeos that you just have to put on your bucket list regardless of where you live. Not only is it a fan favorite, but it held a special place in Chris LeDoux’s heart as well. For a long time, LeDoux was the only cowboy to have participated in the rodeo as well as play on Cheyenne’s concert stage. The only other cowboy to have done that as well, is Wyoming native, Chancey Williams. Chris LeDoux will forever be remembered at Cheyenne Frontier Days by his 12.5-foot bronze statue that was sculpted by artist, D. Michael Thomas.

Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo | Ogden, Utah | July 20-25, 2022

Ogden Pioneer Days is an annual celebration to commemorate the settlement of Ogden, Utah. The festivities each July include parades, concerts, and, the headline event, the Ogden Pioneer Days rodeo—consistently ranked as one of the top outdoor rodeos in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). This rodeo is special to Chris LeDoux because he tied for the Bareback Championship in 1973.

Days of 76′ Rodeo | Deadwood, South Dakota | July 25-30, 2022

The Days of ’76, which also includes the parades on Deadwood’s Historic Main Street, has been a staple each summer in Deadwood for 99 years. With five rodeo performances, there are plenty of opportunities to see all the cowboys and cowgirls competing for the championship title. One of the things that make Days of 76′ Rodeo so special is that it not only hosts one parade but two! You can catch the Historic Parade on Friday, July 29th at 1:30 pm or the Days or 76′ Parade on Saturday at 10 am. This event is special for Chris LeDoux because he won the Bareback riding at this rodeo in 1974.

11th Annual Chris LeDoux Days

Of course, we couldn’t wrap this article up without including the Annual LeDoux Days, which takes place every June in Kaycee, Wyoming. The town comes alive with Chris LeDoux’s spirit and excitement. Going on their 11th annual event, you can expect to catch some bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, a kids barrel race, and plenty of music to feed your soul. The musical acts performing after the rodeo this year will be, Corb Lund, Ned LeDoux, and Kellen Smith! Ned LeDoux is Chris’s son and carries on his father’s legacy of singing outstanding country music. This event is taking place on June 17 and 18, 2022.
