An event like none other, the Cinch Timed Event Championship is heading to Oklahoma at the Lazy E Arena from February 29 through March 2nd, 2024. This year will be honoring 40 years of unstoppable talent. The event is bringing the top twenty all-around rodeo competitors to Guthrie, Oklahoma, to fight for the coveted and unique title of the Cinch Timed Event Champion.
The Timed Event Championship asks competitors to compete in not just one but five events through the three-day event. The events are heading, heeling, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, and steer roping. With a total purse of $200,000, the winner walks away with a $100,000 paycheck and bragging rights.
“This is by far the biggest win of my career. I’m not rodeoing that hard anymore, so to even be here is a blessing. To come out on top is unbelievable.”
– Cody Doescher 2023 CTEC Champion
In addition to the main event, there will be the Jr. Ironman Championship included with your CTEC ticket featuring rodeo’s ten hottest young guns—competing in three rounds and four events: Heading, Heeling, Tie-Down Roping, and Steer Wrestling.
This prestigious event premiered in 1985 from the vision of EK Gaylord II, builder and owner of the Lazy E. EK Gaylord II saw a need for something that showcased the all-around cowboy who did well in many events, not just one, as was becoming popular at the time. Nicknamed the “Ironman of Pro Rodeo,” this event is grueling, to say the least.
“After all I’ve been through to be here makes this win even sweeter. The Timed Event is one of the greatest events ever. You don’t get to compete against the best 20 all-around cowboys in the world in five different events anywhere else in the world.”
– Erich Rogers 2022 CTEC Champion – from Round Rock, Arizona
The Lazy E Arena has an incredible history all on its own. It opened in 1984, just in time for the National Finals Steer Roping Finals. The originator of the arena, EK Gaylord II, provided the opportunity for the National Finals Rodeo and the Steer Roping Finals to be at the same place and at the same time to create an epic rodeo event. While this plan only worked for one year, that didn’t stop this legendary arena from becoming a place where legends visit and where legends are made. The current ownership group is committed to maintaining the Lazy E Arena as the premier western entertainment facility, with updates and renovations taking place to maintain that status.
