Here at Cowboy Lifestyle Network, we are all about supporting small businesses which is why I am thrilled to highlight Western Office Supply House, owned and managed by Sophia Sulzer and Karissa Ferguson. The two of them have worked together from different states for the past year and a half on this fast-growing office supply business. Karissa is based in Texas with her husband and 4 daughters while Sophia is in Iowa with her husband and 3 children. They spend many hours on FaceTime discussing business as well as just supporting each other through real life. Check out more about their business journey below!
Q: How did you get started in your business?
A: We both loved the idea of bringing two worlds together and filling a cap for planners specifically designed for people in our industry. You can’t just go to Walmart and pick up a planner with our custom designs in it nor are those products probably printed in the US like ours are. The business developed quickly after our first conversation about it, we were both all in and found manufacturers, designed our first planner from blank pages to a finished product with 3 different covers, and launched pre-orders all in less than two months.
Q: What motivates you in your business?
A: Seeing people love our products and be excited that they have something they use every day that represents them on a personal level. We also love coming up with new ideas as well as honoring tradition. Our customers and us alike both really love our recipe books and the reason why we created those.
Q: What makes your business unique from others?
A: Our products are fully custom from cover to cover, we work with graphic designers and photographers to secure exclusive covers only we carry and we work our fingers to the bone designing the interiors completely custom as well. We also offer both spiral and hard cover options which is not something you see often and if you can find them you usually pay a premium for hardcover but not with us. We know what it’s like to need your products to hold up in all kinds of conditions so we don’t charge you more for wanting something a little more sturdy.
Q: Where do you want to be in the next 3 years?
A: In three years we just want to be providing the same high-quality products that serve the community we feel so blessed to be a part of. We have grown so quickly that we haven’t even really slowed down to set long-term goals and are just taking it day by day as God leads us.
We offer more than just planners, we have also designed recipe books, address books, date night and wedding books, cow/calf trackers, rodeo record books, and more. We know people in the Western industry are not one-trick ponies and usually have a lot of things they are juggling. We want to be a place where you can find resources to help manage it all. From our home management planner to our small business planner at the beginning of the year to our academic planners focused on teachers and students to our appointment books perfect for everyone from vet offices and farriers to beauty professionals and even realtors we know you have to have a place to write it all down and don’t we all feel better when we carry around those items when they’re pretty too? Find your next planner with us and while you’re there grab some of our “limited edition” books too. We tried to think of everything and still have so much on our list we want to create but we are never too proud to take suggestions and ideas from customers as well. Please reach out if there is something you’d love for us to create that would help in your everyday life.
