Tyler Milligan, a handsome 20 year old from Pawhuska, Oklahoma who has been roping since the tender age of 5, has just won the 2017 PRCA Tie-Down Roping Rookie of the Year title, with an impressive $53,869 in season earnings.
Tyler’s happy, but far from satisfied.
When I interviewed this young man, he was friendly, and very focused on:
So – as you can all see – my work was cut out for me, in terms of prying out any information out of him like what he likes to do on his free time, hobbies, or any other interests outside of competition!
I did, however, manage to find out that he does enjoy playing basketball and he gave CLN a photo of he and his fellow Oklahoma High School Rodeo Team Members out on a rare rafting excursion during the 2014 National High School Rodeo Finals in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
I asked Tyler if there has been anyone that has been a major influence in his rodeo career, and he said, “[he’s] Always enjoyed watching Roy Cooper.
Some of the 2017 season highlights include winning the Farm City Pro Rodeo in Hermiston, Oregon; and winning the first round of the Frontier Days PRCA Rodeo in Walla Walla, Washington.
Tyler has been quoted to say that the horse is nearly all of how successful a roper can be. The competition photos of Tyler on his beloved horse “Big Time” show this to be true. The horse is very consistent and has the same pose in every shot!
He plans to travel with fellow PRCA roper Timber Moore; with the Odessa, Ft Worth, and Denver PRCA rodeos being the first stops on his 2018 Season Tour.
All of us here at CLN certainly want to congratulate Tyler Milligan on his Rookie of the Year award, and wish him the best of luck in 2018!!
