It’s a cowboy’s dream. It’s a fight for a title. It’s the main event. This is where legacies are born, the 2017 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR). It is considered to be the Super Bowl of rodeo to cowboys and cowgirls across the country. The world’s greatest rodeo athletes will come together to compete for the grueling championship title. Professional cowboys and cowgirls have strived for a craved spot in the top 15 standings of their individual events in order to take their place at the Wrangler NFR, the ProRodeo’s richest and most prestigious rodeo. The rodeo will showcase not only the country’s very best cowboys and cowgirls, but it will also showcase the very best stock as well.

The Wrangler NFR will consist of 10 rounds throughout ten nights. Last year nearly 218,000 rodeo enthusiasts made their way to Sin City for the rodeo action. The rodeo is always held during the first two weeks in December. The NFR will begin Dec. 7th and end Dec. 16th. It will take roughly 28 hours to transform the Thomas & Mack Center, located in Las Vegas, Nv., from a basketball arena to the cowboy’s coliseum.
In 1985 the rodeo was moved from Oklahoma City to Las Vegas. Over the past 31 years, prize money has increased tremendously. The Wrangler NFR will pay out an extraordinary $10 million in prize money to these contenders during their race for the title. This will be the ending to their yearlong fight on the rodeo road.

Las Vegas has plenty to offer outside of the arena during these ten days as well. While champions are being crowned inside the arena, people are getting hitched by Elvis on the strip, shopping at Cowboy Christmas, at the Convention Center, or being entertained by the various bands who made the trek to Sin City. You don’t want to miss out on this year’s 2017 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

I am a 23-year-old from the small town of Hitchita, Oklahoma. I was raised in the well known Duvall steer wrestling family, so I am no stranger when it comes to the sport of rodeo and western lifestyle. I have two brothers, and the three of us have all competed in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. I am an Oklahoma State alumni where I majored in Agricultural Communications and Agribusiness. I am now a third grade teacher. When I am not writing stories or in a classroom, I enjoy camping with my family, feeding cows, traveling, going to rodeos, meeting new people, and eating dutch oven dinner.
