Music Monday Featured Artist: Colton James

Country singer-songwriter Colton James was introduced to the country lifestyle at an early age. His father would turn on classics from artists like George Jones, Keith Whitley, and Merle Haggard in the truck on the way to the fishing hole together. James grew up watching his mother sing and his grandmothers play the piano and organ. As he became older, he knew he wanted to create music that was inspirational and down-to-earth.

His single “I Miss America” showcases that mentality. James wrote the song with Rick Dawson, owner of 2022 Kentucky Derby-winning thoroughbred Rich Strike.

Dawson commented on the writing process of the track, saying “Colton and I gathered at my table and wrote the song in a couple of hours. However, Colton and I were not alone, as there were others in spirit pushing our pens for us. I’ve never written a song or a story. I don’t play an instrument, but I have an ear for quality music.”

James added, “This song to me is one to reflect on some of the memories I have growing up. It helps remind those what America was founded on and to never forget the ones who have sacrificed to keep it free. I hope it puts a smile on all of America’s faces when they listen. I hope it gives them a feeling that they are proud to be an American and to have hope in the days that lie ahead of us.

The track expresses the longing to return to the America James used to know: gathering around Grandma’s table for Sunday lunch and friends were real friends. A patriotic single for the whole family, “I Miss America” will make you want to go riding around with friends, recalling simpler times.

Throughout his career, James has opened for established artists like Carrie Underwood, Florida Georgia Line, Toby Keith, John Pardi, and Jason Aldean in his career. He has also held performances for events and places near his heart, like Race For The Cure and the Susan G. Komen foundation.

James expresses why he loves making music, saying,

I do it for the love of my family, for the love of my friends, for the love of my country, but mostly for the love of God. Without God, I wouldn’t be here.

Along with music, James and Dawson have launched RedSunset Entertainment, a Nashville-based upstart multimedia company that is set to produce records, television and radio programming, and more. The company, “where we work sun up to sun down,” hopes to bring freedom and originality to artists who left the industry and want to return and to introduce new artists into the music world.

That’s our mission at RedSunset Entertainment,” Dawson stated, “to produce quality songs that become hits.”

James expresses why he loves making music, saying, “I do it for the love of my family, for the love of my friends, for the love of my country, but mostly for the love of God. Without God, I wouldn’t be here.

The “I Miss America” music video is set to release on November 1, and the song is available worldwide on Apple Music, Amazon, Spotify, YouTube, and all other primary streaming services.

Patrick OD O'Donnell

The moment a bull's gate swings open—that's when Patrick "OD" O'Donnell feels most alive. From his early days riding bareback through Arizona pastures to revolutionizing the bull riding industry as President of Bull Riders Only, OD has lived the Western lifestyle he now champions as Founder of Cowboy Lifestyle Network. Growing up in Casa Grande's sunbaked agricultural heartland, he didn't just learn about horses and ranching, he lived it daily, developing the instincts and grit that would later attract 4 million followers to CLN's authentic voice. After his baseball days at the University of Arizona, OD saw something others missed: bull riding wasn't just a sport, but was compelling entertainment waiting for the right vision. Between 1990-1997, his leadership transformed local rodeo competitions into sold-out arena events that changed Western sports forever. Today, that same pioneering spirit drives CLN's coverage of everything from championship rodeos to the quiet heroism of ranch life. When he's not building the digital home for cowboy culture, you'll find OD supporting Harris Brothers Charity Foundation, leading CLN’s 25-year Christmas Toy Drive for Arizona kids, or sharing his love of horsemanship with special needs riders through Arizona's own Horses Help. Living proof that authentic Western values still have the power to transform lives.
