Coors Banquet donations support Wildland Firefighter Foundation through Protect Our West

Written by

Summer in the West means hot temperatures and dry conditions — prime conditions for wildfires. Wildland firefighters risk their lives to battle these fires and keep their communities safe.
While firefighters are often the most visible members of the team, many other skilled fire professionals also have vital roles, according to the Smokey Bear website. The frontline team fighting a wildland fire can include engine crews and hand crews. Hand crews use tools to create a perimeter cleared of flammable material. They’ll also investigate contained areas to make sure they’re extinguished. Hotshot crews are experienced hand crews, often working in remote terrain.
Dozer and tractor plow crews operate heavy equipment and clear vegetation around a fire’s perimeter. Helitack crew members fight wildfires by helicopter, sometimes rappelling from helicopters to reach fires in remote areas. Smokejumpers even parachute to wildfires that couldn’t otherwise be reached.
Numerous other team members support these front-line firefighters, sometimes in behind-the-scenes roles. These include wildfire prevention and patrol specialists, who promote prevention with education in classrooms and communities, along with writing violations for fire risks.
Fire scientists study fire behavior and, with fuels specialists, provide management options for wildfires and prescribed fires. Fire managers analyze wildfires and assemble the needed teams and tools for firefighting. Incident management teams develop strategies to fight wildfires by managing equipment, transportation and other needs of the firefighters.
Lookouts, stationed in remote towers, are used less frequently today due to advances in aerial fire detection. These team members observe, plot and report fire locations.
Fighting wildfires requires a skilled team of many members. The Coors Banquet Protect Our West (POW) campaign supports these wildland firefighting teams by donating a portion from the sale of each case of beer or case equivalent. These funds benefit the Wildland Firefighter Foundation, a group that helps injured or fallen firefighters and their families.

Cowboy Lifestyle Network challenges you to support the many brave firefighters who are fighting on the frontlines of wildfires to “Protect Our West” by drinking Coors Banquet.
Remember to drink Coors Banquet beer at any bar, concert, restaurant, rodeo, tavern and of course, any retail store. Meanwhile, you will be directly benefiting Coors’ Protect Our West Campaign and the Wildland Firefighter Foundation (WFF).
