Cornyval Festival and Rodeo 2020

Written by

Howdy Helotes, Texas! I hope you are ready for three nights of the action-packed Cornyval Festival and Rodeo. This will be the 55th year of Cornyval Festival and the 36th year of the PRCA Rodeo kicking off on Thursday, August 13th to the 16th! I’m telling you this event is bigger and better every year! It’s the fastest-growing rodeo spectacular in the country. Each night is something special. Thursday will be supporting the blue-Wrangler and Helotes Rodeo has come together to make this a special night. Friday night is Bud Light night. It isn’t a rodeo without a cold-one! Lastly, Saturday the Helotes Rodeo is representing unconditional support for the Military and the Center for the Intrepid. There will be special military guests, so get ready!

There will be fun for all ages with a large carnival, 3 stages of live music with many Texas country music artists. Cornyval is known for its special event called Chicken Bingo, the numbers are called out and wherever a chicken does their business depends if you get that Bingo! Also, don’t forget there will be pig races, a corn eating contest, and much more! Many local vendors will be here selling the most unique items! You need to come support and check out the local businesses. You don’t want to miss out on this good time and a great opportunity to make long-lasting memories with your friends and family.

The Andrews Rodeo Company is owned by Sammy Andrews who is a stock contractor providing the best of the best rodeo animals around! Andrews was the owner of the famous, meanest and bad to the bone bull around, his name was Bodacious. The rodeo will consist of women’s barrel racing, bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, team roping, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, bull riding and don’t forget mutton bustin’!  There will be cash prizes and a Champion Buckle will be awarded at each event!

Catalina Cowgirls are returning to the rodeo this year to show their spectacular painted horses. Keith Isley will be the famous Barrelman and Specialty Act. Get ready to get some good laughs in because Isley was named PRCA Comedy Act of the Year in 2013 and has received many other awards. This will be a good show y’all! Get ready to do some boot-scootin’ because at the end of each rodeo there will be a dance on the Cornyval grounds.

We can’t forget and give a big thank you to the Helotes Festival Association’s PRCA Rodeo’s sponsors, Pendleton Whiskey, Wrangler, Dodge Ram, and Bud Light. There are many local sponsors as well such as H-E-B. Thank you to all the sponsors and volunteers who are helping put on the best of the best, Cornyval Festival and Rodeo.

A new thing starting this year, Helotes will be switching over to eCash pricing packages to purchase all food and drink beverages. This is a great way to skip the line and buy online! An easier way so you won’t have to worry about having cash on you.

I hope y’all come down to Helotes, Texas because this is one hell of an event! So much hard work and planning was put into this! This year will be even better! Come make new memories at the Cornyval Festival and Rodeo! I’ll see ya there!

Megan deFabry

Howdy, I'm Megan deFabry. I grew up in Reno, Nevada, but since 2017 my heart has called Texas home. I now reside in Austin, Texas since 2020. I'm driven by my faith, cherished relationships with family and friends, and my professional ambitions. I'm passionate about digital marketing and journalism, especially the wide-open spaces of America's Western lifestyle, the grit of agriculture, the excitement of rodeo, and the heart of country music. For nearly a decade, I've been sharing this way of life through storytelling. And like any good cowboy tale, there's a loyal sidekick, my little Dachshund, Frank, who I adopted from a shelter in New Braunfels, Texas, back in 2018. He keeps me grounded, reminding me to chase horizons and savor life's simple joys. I graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Consumer Affairs and a minor in Mass Communication. My major taught me to decode consumer behavior, which is crucial for marketing, while my minor sharpened my storytelling skills. Since then, I've spent years mastering SEO and content strategy, staying ahead in a fast-moving field. My work even caught the eye of Cowboy Lifestyle Network's CTO, Irish Padmore, who recognized me for contributing to his research on Consumer Behavior in the Age of AI. Since 2018, I've been honored to work at Cowboy Lifestyle Network. Now as Editor-in-Chief writing, editing, and publishing articles that capture the cowboy spirit, crafting strategies rooted in Western values, and building real client connections. Guided by ethical journalism, I aim to tell stories that resonate and reflect the unsung heroes of the Western spirit.
