Cowboy Marriage Proposals

PRCA and WPRA contestants shared their marriage proposals

The best country western songs can provide a clue into the romance of the cowboy, ranching and western lifestyle.  In a multi-part series, Cowboy Lifestyle Network and Kirchmann Media Group are teaming up to share wedding planning ideas for cowboys and cowgirls from the heart.

We searched out for tried and tested cowboy marriage proposals and came up with a few of our own suggestions with the help from a few romantic rough stock riders.

Montana Sunset Proposal

Jane Melby, 2x NFR Barrel Racing qualifier told Cowboy Lifestyle Network, Ryan sold his roping calves to buy her ring.
Melby remembers the proposal came after Thanksgiving Dinner.  The Melby’s will celebrate their 22 wedding anniversary this June.

Fellow barrel racer, Lindsay Kruse a 5x National Circuit Final qualifier recently married 2009 World Champion Saddle Bronc Rider Jesse Kruse.

Jesse & Lindsay Kruse

Lindsay and Jesse met while both competing in the Montana High School Rodeo Association.
They didn’t start dating until after college when both were again competing at the Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals.
The Kruse proposal took place in Montana.

“(Jesse) took me out to my parent’s ranch at sunset and took me to a very sentimental spot, he got down on one knee and asked to marry me,” Lindsay retold, “So, of course, I said yes!!!”

The Roughstock Duo

Tyler Corrington and Morgan McSweyn

Saddle Bronc Rider Tyler Corrington is an accomplished dance choreographer.  Just ask his fiancée Morgan.

I bet his traveling partner Cort Scheer will probably even vouch for Tyler’s pickup line.   Correct!  Scheer said, Tyler loves Michael Jackson music and thinks he can dance.

The roughstock duo plus a few more bronc riders stopped in Florida while on the rodeo road.  Morgan and her family were vacationing and they all ended up at the same bar.

Tyler laughed when asked exactly how he came up with the line.  He noticed Morgan dancing and took his chance with “if you need some dance moves, I’m a dance choreographer.”

The pickup line worked and this past December, Tyler proposed but not on the dance floor.
Tyler bought the ring in Las Vegas during the NFR.  Corrington proposed to his future bride at her parent’s home over Christmas.  Morgan walked into the bedroom and caught him looking at the ring. “I made small talk, and then decided to ask her on the spot so she could show off the ring to her family,” Corrington shared.

Cowboy Lifestyle Network couldn’t believe the next proposal involved a roommate bringing the ring to the restaurant….

Big Diamonds and Fried Ice Cream

The former Jamie Jenkins, recalls how Buck Rudolph proposed to her in Montana.  “He dressed up in his cowboy gear,” Jamie told Cowboy Lifestyle Network,  “I had been really sick and he had already asked my dad.  (Buck) had come to get me so he couldn’t stop by the jeweler’s and get the ring first.”

Buck insisted they go out to dinner and throughout dinner he kept excusing himself from the table.  When dessert arrived Buck had snuck the engagement ring into the fried ice cream.

Jamie said the random trips were actually his attempts to connect with his roommate Rod you had picked up the ring from the jewelers and brought it to the restaurant.

Jamie and Buck live in the Bitterroot Valley of western Montana on a ranch.  Buck continues to team rope after his collegiate rodeo career.  Jamie is a busy mother and fabulous stylish/interior designer. Her work is featured at www.prairiesisters.com.
