CX-30 from Mazda offers sporty, fun crossover vehicle

A review in Car and Driver calls CX-30 “nimble, athletic and fun to drive.” The CX-30 offers seating for five people.

The CX-30 got to 60 miles per hour in 8.1 seconds on the Car and Driver test track. Front-wheel-drive CX-30 models receive fuel-economy estimates of 25 mpg in the city, 33 mpg on the highway and 28 mpg combined from the EPA, while all-wheel drive ranks at 24 mpg in the city, 31 mpg highway and 26 mpg combined.

All trim levels come with a 2.5-liter engine and 186 horsepower, and are available with all-wheel drive for an additional $1400, says Car and Driver. The Select trim option adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and keyless entry.

Inside, the 2020 CX-30 has a “handsome, well-crafted interior,” notes Car and Driver. The infotainment display is situated in the center of the dashboard, controlled by a rotary knob on the center console. 

Connectivity features are sure to please. A standard 8.8-inch screen and Mazda Connect Services provides the ability to lock and unlock, remote start and monitor the vehicle through the MyMazda app. The CX-30 also comes with standard Bluetooth, two front USB ports and a Wi-Fi hotspot. AppleCarPlay/Android Auto and SiriusXM satellite radio can be added.

Buyers can choose between an eight- or 12-speaker audio system and can upgrade to heated front seats, Car and Driver notes. The Premium option adds leather upholstery and a power-operated rear liftgate.

The CX-30 offers “impressive” driver-assistance features as standard, says Car and Driver. These include adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist with lane-departure warning and automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Add-ons include a head-up display and blind-spot monitoring.

While the CX-30 doesn’t sport the largest interior, it offers options for carrying people and gear. According to Car and Driver, six carry-on suitcases fit behind the rear seats, and 16 bags could fit with the rear seats folded down.
