In the summer of 1977, Dodge City Roundup had 17 contestants and a payout of $8,200. Reported in 2015, the rodeo has grown to five full nights of rodeo action with nearly 800 contestants and a payout of almost $339,000! Ever since, the number of contestants has continued to grow and the payout has increased each year over the previous year. The Dodge City Roundup is the only ProRodeo Tour held in the state of Kansas with the richest in contestant payout.

The Dodge City Roundup Rodeo is one of the top rodeos in the nation in partnership with many local, area, and national sponsors. It has also been named as PRCA’S “Largest Outdoor Rodeo Committee of the Year” nine times. Time Magazine selected the Dodge City Roundup Rodeo as one of the “50 Authentic American Experiences”. The rodeo was inducted into the PRCA Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in July of 2012.

The rodeo will include bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing, tie-down roping, and mutton bustin’. The very first night will be the Xtreme Bulls Tour that will present the PRCA’S top bull riders taking on some of the world’s rankest bulls. 50 riders in the Xtreme Bulls event will compete for the tour win. The money won at the PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour will count toward the PRCA World Standings for bull riding. That means it will determine the qualifiers for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas but it doesn’t count toward the PRCA all-around standing.

He later added barrelman to his PRCA card. John has worked coast to coast and even made 8 appearances at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nevada. He has been awarded Comedy Act of the Year several times as well as bringing home the gold buckle representing his 3-time achievement as Coors Man in the Can.
