Dolly Hoot 2025: The Tucson & Phoenix Takeover!

Known for her unbounding charm, quick wit, heart of gold, and undeniable talent, Dolly Parton has earned her spot as a staple in the lexicon of American music. From humble beginnings to international stardom Dolly has remained warmly regarded in the hearts of music lovers since her debut. While her fame has skyrocketed, Dolly has kept her approachable, homegrown personality that has fostered a feeling of connection, understanding, and appreciation amongst her fandom.

With talent and personality galore, fans can’t get enough of the Backwoods Barbie! Born on January 19th, 1946, the Capricorn songstress celebrated her 79th birthday in 2025. In celebration of Dolly’s legacy, fans gather every January to raise a glass and join in song to honor Mrs. Parton’s glittery career.

Sounds like a good time, right!? Well Arizona Dolly fans, you’re in luck! Don’t miss out on Arizona’s “Tour De Dolly” this Friday and Saturday in Tucson and Phoenix!

Mamma Coal’s “Dolly Hoot”: A Tribute to Dolly Parton

Dolly Hoot is brought to you by Tucson’s very own Mamma Coal. Having shared stages with the likes of country superstars Lainey Wilson and Kaitlin Butts, Mamma Coal has established herself as a powerhouse presence in the Americana and Country music scenes.

Mamma Coal’s band of star players has assembled a diverse collection of music that ranges from “rock-tinged power-ballad to tender waltz to TUX-MEX Tejano-Country fusion. Speaking on the shifts in modern country, she recently told KPIG’s Jamie Coffis, “Country music is working people’s music and they have the right to make it work for them.” (mammacoal.com)

But what inspired Mamma Coal to start a Dolly Parton tribute show here in Arizona? Was it the music or so much more? I had the privilege of speaking to the maestro herself and get a deep dive into how her love for Dolly came to be and how Dolly Hoot made its debut in the Grand Canyon State.

“I’m a little bit of a Dolly fanatic. I love all the different styles she has explored from bluegrass to disco to pop and now rock. I love the rich expression in her voice and I especially love her songwriting. She really feels the human experience deeply and reflects back to us something we can all connect with. She can make you have the most fun and cry the hardest–all in one night! I love her wisdom and her humor. I love her glamour and celebration of beauty. I love her feminine strength. Yup, I LOVE her!” – Mamma Coal

“I participated in the annual Dolly Hoot in Portland, Oregon for many years before moving to Tucson. I missed it so much that I decided to host my own show down here. This will be the 5th year I have organized and hosted in Tucson and the 2nd year for the Phoenix show. Each year I learn new songs and I’ve got over 30 Dolly songs in my repertoire now. The song I’m learning for the opening this year is from her Backwoods Barbie album. It’s very inspiring and uplifting to sing. I can’t wait to share it.” – Mamma Coal

A perfect blend of great food and great atmosphere make The Dirty Drummer a great place to enjoy a Saturday Night or recover with a “hair of the dog” on Sunday morning. You may recognize The Dirty Drummer as one of Phoenix’s best stops for chicken wings! From nightly dining specials to bar staples, The Dirty Drummer knows how to combine good food, good music, and a good time.

“The wood-paneled walls, the open grill behind the bar, the jukebox packed with Merle, Willie, Waylon, and the Hanks: There’s much to love about The Dirty Drummer. Maybe its most lovable quality, though, is its origin story. The first location of this sports bar, honky-tonk, and music venue at 44th and Oak streets was opened in 1975 by Frank “Drummer” Armstrong and his partner, “Dirty Dave” Werner. Armstrong died in 2012, and the original Drummer closed in 2018. But the following year, the former owner’s daughter, Dana Armstrong, along with business partners Andrew Smith and Tom Bernard, reopened the spot with a strong nod to the Drummer of yesteryear. Armstrong is the creator of Valley Fever, a DJ night of Arizona country that started in 2005 at Yucca Tap Room. She’s brought much of that outlaw ambiance to The Drummer. Here, patrons are encouraged to play some George Jones, order a Drummer Burger, and tip back a house beer — Miller Lite.” –Phoenix New Times.
