What is the Elite Rodeo Association (ERA)?

Written by

Just as the top athletes in pro football, basketball, golf and other sports have their own leagues; it has been inevitable that the top rodeo competitors in the world would someday have their own league as well. That dream became a reality recently with the formation of the Elite Rodeo Association (ERA).
A showcase for the world’s best rodeo competitors, the ERA is poised to display not only the current champions of rodeo, but also act as a pathway to helping develop the stars of tomorrow.

What Makes the ERA Unique?

#ERAfamily

Unlike many other professional sports leagues, the ERA is owned by the athletes themselves. Comprised of the top 55 rodeo athletes in the world, the Elite Rodeo Association ERA boasts 42 World Champion Cowboys and Cowgirls among its membership. Among its many stars are 21-time World Champion Trevor Brazile, Charmayne James, Fred Whitfield and Fallon Taylor, who turned pro in 1991 at the tender age of nine and knows the value of having an organization that will help develop the next generation of rodeo stars.

What Will the ERA Tour Look Like?

The Elite Rodeo Association ERA is set to take the sports world by storm in the coming year. Having already negotiated an agreement for its competitions to be broadcast on network television, the ERA plans to have a 15-event regular season tour across the United States, which will culminate with a five-day World Championship event that will have the top qualifiers from the regular season vying to be recognized as the world’s best rodeo athlete. Among the competitions included in each event are:

  • ERA’s Trevor Brazile & Tuf Cooper with CLN’s Patrick OD O’Donnell

    Bronc Racing
  • Barrel Racing
  • Bull Riding
  • Bareback Riding
  • Team Roping
  • Tie Down Roping
  • Steer Wrestling

By having only the top competitors at these events, those involved with the ERA expect interest in the sport to grow immensely over the next decade.

Where Will ERA Events be Held?

As with any new organization, the Elite Rodeo Association ERA is currently working to finalize deals with numerous sports arenas and rodeo venues across North America to host events. With the popularity of rodeo growing not only in the United States but Canada as well, it’s very likely events will be available to fans everywhere.
By coming together with a common goal, these competitors have laid the groundwork not only for themselves but also the next generation of rodeo stars to achieve unprecedented success. With its willingness to be innovative and put the interest of fans first, the Elite Rodeo Association ERA should provide excitement for many years to come.
