Festa do Peão de Barretos
August 21st to August 31st, 2025
Brigadeiro Faria Lima Highway, KM 428 – Barretos – SP

History
Back in 1956, a determined group of local young men, known as “Os Independentes” (The Independents), sparked a revolution, aiming to honor the bold spirit and incredible skills of Brazil’s rural cattle herders, the peões. What started as humble competitions in makeshift arenas has grown into an internationally recognized phenomenon, becoming Latin America’s largest rodeo. Since 1985, the Festa do Peão de Barretos has been held at Parque do Peão, a sprawling 2 million-square-meter complex located just outside the city center. Designed specifically for the event by legendary Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, the venue features a massive rodeo stadium with seating for 35,000 spectators – one of the largest in Latin America. The stadium features grandstands, VIP boxes, media facilities, and a massive LED screen that broadcasts the action live. Beyond the arena, the complex also has campgrounds, exhibition halls, food courts, stables, and more, transforming it into a fully functioning city during the festival.

Events
The rodeo showcases a variety of competitive events, such as bull riding, bareback bronc riding, barrel racing, team roping, tie-down roping, and cutting and herding demonstrations. Bull riding is especially tough for the Brazilian cowboys, who aim to match or beat the record set by Adriano Moraes, who in 1994 became one of just four athletes in history to ride the full eight seconds on 10 consecutive bulls.

Activities
Wander through charming themed villages, where the heart of Brazil’s countryside comes alive through captivating folk dances and exciting rodeo displays. Lose yourself in artisan markets, discovering unique hand-tooled leather goods, shiny silver belt buckles, and authentic rodeo gear that tell stories of tradition. As evening falls, get ready to be swept away by an incredible lineup of over 40 national and regional acts on two main stages. Feel the energy at Palco Estádio, the grand centerpiece hosting epic stadium-style productions, or enjoy the intimate magic of Palco Amanhecer with unforgettable late-night shows. Sing along with superstars like Fernando & Sorocaba, João Bosco & Vinícius, and the sensational Ana Castela, and watch legends like Chitãozinho & Xororó celebrate over five decades of iconic music. With gospel nights, pulsating DJ sets, and surprise appearances, every moment promises an emotional journey into the heart of Brazilian celebration.
