Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo FWSSR 2019

Every year from the end of January to the first week of February, cowboys, and cowgirls come from across the country to participate in the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo.

Fort Worth, TX January 18 – February 9, 2019
Every year from the end of January to the first week of February, cowboys, and cowgirls come from across the country to participate in the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. Just as the title suggests, it is much more than just a rodeo. Agriculture plays a huge part in the festivities as well, with both 4-H and FFA competing in their own specialty events.

The FWSSR kicks off with the annual All Western Parade on January 19, 2019, in Downtown Fort Worth. Along with numerous animal shows and auctions, all are welcome to enjoy the carnival, browse the vendor displays and attend the various rodeos that are scheduled to take place. The Coors Light Roadhouse has a long list of musicians scheduled, who will be sure to provide top-notch entertainment.

Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo History

The FWSSR began in 1896 when ranchers brought their cattle to auction. Representatives of meat-packing houses arrived to choose prime beef. In 1917, the show included cowboy riding contests. One year later, rodeo events included cowboy and cowgirl bronc riding along with adult and junior steer riding. Since Western sporting events increased attendance at the show, sponsors began increasing the number of rodeo events. By 1920, bull riding was added to the rodeo lineup. Bareback-bronc riding was added in 1927.

In 1932, NBC was the first radio station to broadcast the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. NBC was also the first television network to broadcast the Texas sporting event on live television in 1958. That year, Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, and other notable Western stars made an appearance. Today, the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo generate millions of dollars in revenue, much of which is given in the form of grants and scholarships.
