The HeartStrings Foundation uses music to help aid and heal those in need. With a passion for music, The HeartStrings Foundation was created in 2017 by Rowan and Aaron Pickering. The foundation provides guitars and inspiration to veterans and active service military members to incorporate music into their recovery from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or other health issues. Music is a form of expression, and through music, many emotions show whether that be happy, sad, or angry. A guitar has six strings on it– five strings represent each branch of the military (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, and Navy). The Sixth String is the “HeartString.” Music provides the opportunity to give expression without using words but instead using the emotions of a complex song or a simple song to do so.
Cowboy Lifestyle Network has teamed up with the HeartStrings Foundation. Follow Cowboy Lifestyle Network on Instagram and tag a friend for a chance to win a grand prize Cody Johnson autographed guitar, and other autograph gear from four-time World Champion tie-down roper Tuf Cooper, World Champion Bull Fighter Cody Webster, and the legendary Dale Brisby.
Making A Lasting Impact
Challenge America Foundation
The HeartStrings Foundations teamed up with Amy Grant’s foundation called Challenge America. High-risk Veterans were invited to Amy Grant’s farm just outside of Nashville, Tennessee, to take part in their music therapy program camp. The HeartStrings Foundation presented each of the honored guests with a guitar. Challenge America paired every Veteran with a singer/songwriter, and together they wrote lyrics. With the HeartStrings guitar, they sang their song telling the Veteran’s story.
Gary Sinise Foundation
On Veterans Day the Gary Sinise Foundation and The USO brought 150 injured men and women from Walter Reed and Bethesda Military Hospitals into Las Vegas for an incredible four-day red carpet experience for these honored guests still serving in the military but injured on recent deployments. The HeartStrings Foundation presented each honored guest with a HeartStrings Guitar.
Children’s Hospitals
Through the success and overall growth, The HeartStrings Foundation supports children with chronic illnesses by donated hundreds of guitars to Phoenix’s Children’s Hospital, Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, and Denver Children’s Hospital. Music therapy programs within the hospitals teach children how to sing and play instruments.
The goal is to get guitars into the hands of as many wounded warriors and children as possible. With your help, the HeartStrings Foundation will be able to provide the tools and inspiration that can lead to the beginning of the brave men, women, and children’s journey.
