High Desert Stampede 2019

Written by

The beautiful Pacific Northwest is home to some of the country’s most gorgeous coastlines, lush forests, and grasslands that spread for miles. Included in this geographical wonderland, is the 33rd state of the United States of America, Oregon. This one-stop-shop has everything for the outdoorsman to enjoy while catering to those who prefer modern amenities and city excitement. But what you may not know is that the wild west is alive and well in central Oregon.

That’s right folks, the city of Redmond, Oregon is keeping the rodeo legacy alive and “Bringing you the Stars” with the 2019 High Desert Stampede Professional Rodeo!

The origin-story of each rodeo is as unique as the rodeo committee members who come together to make it a reality each year. With many rodeos having been established decades ago, there is a great deal of history to be upheld and appreciated. However, the High Desert Stampede is proving that you don’t need years of history behind you to create a top-notch rodeo tradition. The High Desert Stampede is establishing their history now.

In 2014, a small group of rodeo producers came together with a common goal, bring the best-of-the-best rodeo athletes to Redmond, Oregon for two days of jaw-dropping rodeo activity. Countless hours of planning, volunteerism, and community partnership came together to make this common goal a reality. In 2015, the first High Desert Stampede was up and running. In 2017, The High Desert Stampede was officially sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). Even in the few years since its commencement, The High Desert Stampede has become a staple in the community of Central Oregon. Highly anticipated, the 2019 High Desert Stampede is just around the corner this March 29th & 30th at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds in Redmond, Oregon.

Rodeo action is sure to keep audiences on the edge of their seat. With PRCA events such as bull riding, saddle bronc, bareback, team roping, barrel racing, steer wrestling, and tie down roping, rodeo fans will be able to watch their favorite animal and human athletes alike go head-to-head in the competition. One of these superstar athletes is Oregon’s very own NFR bull riding sensation, Chase Dougherty! Along with the excitement is the return of Women’s Breakaway Roping to this year’s rodeo event lineup.

Without the generosity of sponsors, volunteers, and community support, no rodeo would be possible. The High Desert Stampede would like to thank their various partners and the public by inviting you to the 2019 Kickoff Party on Thursday, March 28th from 5pm-10pm at the Deschutes County Fair and Expo Center First Interstate Bank Center. Take this chance to meet rodeo entertainer JJ Harrison, announcer Steve Kenyon, and the 2019 High Desert Stampede Rodeo Royalty.

Prior to the first PRCA performance on Friday, March 29th, the High Desert Stampede will present the Kid’s Rodeo for the little cowgirls and cowboys in the family. From 4pm-5pm at the Deschutes County Fair and Expo Center, come learn how to rope from the pros as well as participate in stick-horse races and much more! Stick around for the PRCA performance afterwards as the High Desert Stampede is celebrating Kid’s Night! Children 7 and under will receive free general admission to the rodeo.

Come out to the rodeo early and get your shopping on! The Vendor Fair will open at 5pm and will feature various shops and businesses. Cowgirls and Cowboys will hit the arena for professional rodeo action starting at 7pm. When the last bull has bucked, head on down to the Official High Desert Stampede After Party at the Juniper Golf Course at 9m. Dance the night away and enjoy live musical entertainment.

The fun continues Saturday, March 30th. From 10am-11am, The Rascal Rodeo will be returning to Oregon for an exciting morning of rodeo fun and education. A non-profit organization, the Rascal Rodeo provides the entire cowboy and cowgirl experience for individuals of any age with developmental or physical disabilities. The free event allows registered participants to take part in horseback rides and rodeo-themed activities in the same arena that the cowboys and cowgirls will compete in that same evening.

“For any rodeo to be successful it takes the support of the community, we at HDS are blessed to be in Central Oregon. We have enjoyed the support of sponsors, fairgrounds, media, volunteers, local government, advertisers, fans, and the list could go on. Without this support, it would be impossible to be where we are and to get to where we want to be” (https://www.highdesertstampede.com/).
